George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl is the recipient of the Red Auerbach Trophy as the 2012-13 NBA Coach of the Year, the NBA announced today. Under Karl’s stewardship, the Nuggets finished with a league-best 38-3 (.927) mark at home and the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs.

Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
weak era of coaches :durantunimpressed:

Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
I don't buy it.
If this is true,
That's fcked up. Karl was terrible in the grand scheme of things when considering the other coaches around the league. :wtf:
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
"Coach of the year" coached his team out of the playoffs once again and there's no Melo and J.R. to blame them for that anymore.
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
Wow if true that's is just bad. :coleman:
No offense to Karl but Thibs maximized that Team to the fullest. And If you take Thibs out I would have Pop and Woodson before Karl.
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
Hes been exposed again in the playoffs, this cant be true :biggums:
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
Thank god Brooks isn't there..

Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
Don't coaches of the year always get fired after they get the award?
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
this is a ****ing joke
would this be the first time a coach wins COY and gets fired the same summer? it should happen
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
Thibs wasn't even in the top 5 in voting.....Horrible
:facepalm

Sam Mitchell and mike brown got the boot shortly after

Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
I think Karl is an okay choice, it's a regular season award.
It's obvious now, that Thibs deserves it though. Pop and Thibs are the best coaches in the league.
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
honestly during the regular season he did great. that's where they vote from, not playoffs. i still find it hard not to give it to pop again or thibs, those 2 make more of less every year.
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
Once more the Curse of the COTY award will get a coach fired soon after receiving it.
-

It's a regular season award though.
57 wins, 3rd seed in the west with no stars or a go to guy. No brainer.

Bernie Bickerstaff was robbed for Coach of the Year.
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
It's not based on the regular season and first round. Nuggets were great in the reg season, franchise high 57 wins
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
So he took his non-all-star team to the third seed in the west, I don't see how that's a horrible choice. Remember it's an award for the regular season, so the playoffs disappointment isn't really a factor there
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
in the last 14 years he missed the playoffs 1 time and was eliminated 11 times in the first round. ow, and with players like ray allen, glen robinson, sam cassell, michael redd, kenyon martin, carmelo anthony.
hope he enjoys his award he is used to having free time in early may.

Thibs won that shit. What a robbery.
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
The fact that Thibodeau was eighth in the voting is simply laughable.
Anyway, I'm surprised. I thought it would be Mark Jackson.
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
Lionel Hollins had a midseason trade that brought in 3 new rotation players while trading ther leading scorer. People say Memphis was fhrough. Some experts had Denver as a top 4 seed anyway so its not ike he exceeded expectations.
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
It's a regular season award and Denver overachieved during the regular season. I'm ok with it.

Mike Brown was still there for another season before he got fired though. I don't of any coach who fired the same summer they won it.
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
Thibs is the coach of the year, finishing 8th is a joke. This guy has players dropping like flies... Luol Deng is clinging to life.
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
horrible coach. he sucks and always chokes in the playoffs. can never outcoach anyone
-
Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
How Thibs isn't coach of the year is beyond me.
What a joke

The guy has half of his players in the infirmary with the Ebola virus.

Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
Wow. Surprising.
I thought it was going to Mark Jackson or Vogel.
There are a lot of guys right now who aren't great coaches, but who are good coaches, and whose teams surprised everyone. Karl is one of them, and is probably the best coach of the bunch, but Jackson, Vogel, Thibs, Hollins, and Woodson all could have won it.
I guess the voting took place before Denver's utter collapse in the playoffs.
For those saying Thibs without any regard for how good a coach he actually is, simply because that chicago group overachieved without their star: All Thibs did is get his guys injured by playing them too much. That team was led by its spirited players like Noah and Boozer outworking the opposition. They would have done that with anyone at the helm.

You're an idiot. Do you think players would play that hard for a guy like VDN or Spol?

They wouldn't have done it in the west though. Karl did what he did in the much superior conference. Chicago would be in the lottery if they were in the west.

57 wins with no superstar, 15 game winning streak and 3rd seed in the West. Well deserved

Re: George Karl (?) Named Coach of the Year
I hope this means Denver are stuck with Karl for a few more years:lol
