Cleveland listening to offers for 1st pick from Jazz, Sixers, Wolves, Magic
@SamAmicoFSO 2m
Told Cavs indeed having talks w Jazz but deal being mentioned a little off. Favors, Burks, #5 and #23 in play for #1 and potentially Jack

@SamAmicoFSO 2m
Cavs have talked w Sixers, Jazz, Magic and Timberwolves within past 24 hours, multiple sources say.
Cavs fans, do you take that deal from Utah?? That's pretty huge. Imagine pairing Favors/Randle.
-
Re: Cleveland listening to offers for 1st pick from Jazz, Sixers, Wolves, Magic
If Utah is offering that deal then the Cavs should do it. That's a huge package for the top pick, I'd definitely be into taking that if I were the Cavs, especially with all of Embiid's injury concerns.

Re: Cleveland listening to offers for 1st pick from Jazz, Sixers, Wolves, Magic
I don't understand, why are they doing this? Why not just pass on Embiid? Wiggins on a rookie contract is still pretty damn awesome.
-
Re: Cleveland listening to offers for 1st pick from Jazz, Sixers, Wolves, Magic
Favors is a stud who needs to be on a winning team.

Lebron or Melo?

I haven't liked a single offer I've heard. Take the best player and be done with it.

Because...it's the Cavs. You have Wiggins who has the tools to be a great defender, elite level athleticism in a league that's geared towards it and he actually wants to be on the Cavs. I think they're over thinking this.
-
Re: Cleveland listening to offers for 1st pick from Jazz, Sixers, Wolves, Magic
I'd imagine they're exploring all of their options before going forward. Bummer that Embiid isn't healthy, or this would have been a no brainer.
-
Re: Cleveland listening to offers for 1st pick from Jazz, Sixers, Wolves, Magic
Embiid's injuries messed a lot of things up. They should jump on that Jazz deal. 4-5 years from now it might be a horrible decision if Wiggins or Parker are legit superstars...but as of right now that deal sounds pretty damn good.
Favors and Burks are right around Kyrie's age at 22, two more great pieces for that young core. Quality players that'll keep their youth and ceiling high, but are also good enough to make a strong impact from the start. Favors especially. Then you throw in Vonleh or Randle with the #5, and someone like Payne, Cappella, or McGary with the #23 for backup PF/C, or maybe Shabazz Napier for backup PG. All while dumping Jack, damn.
Kyrie/Napier
Waiters/Burks
Gee/Miles
TT/Vonleh
Favors/Varejao
The only weakness there would be SF, which they could easily fix in free agency, by signing someone like Ariza, Hayward, Wes Johnson, Xavier Henry, etc. Hope Blatt comes in and makes it all work, and if it does, that team might make the 2nd round of the playoffs.

It's still a no-brainer. The Cavs biggest needs were a center and a small forward. Sure, the center is hurt and that sucks, but the next two best players are SFs. Right now, the closest thing we have to a starting caliber SF is Alonzo Gee.
Take your favorite and move on to the next issue.

Re: Cleveland listening to offers for 1st pick from Jazz, Sixers, Wolves, Magic
Wow that is a huge package for the Cavs. Favors and Burks plus 2 first rd picks? Unless Cavs really want Wiggins or Parker. Because at 5 what are you left with? Parker, Wiggins, Embiid, Exum will be gone. So now what? I can see why Cavs wouldnt do it but I can see why they would. I'm torn.

could get randle or possible vonleh at 5 still.

magic apparently offered afflalo + #4 + #12
i don't believe it though.

Re: Cleveland listening to offers for 1st pick from Jazz, Sixers, Wolves, Magic
You trade the #1 pick for Love or Melo if that's what it takes to get Lebron to come. Other than that, you just draft Wiggins. You don't trade Wiggins for quantity over quality. It makes no sense.
Cleveland makes shit harder for themselves than it needs to be.

I'd nut at that.
Also, why does everyone always assume the cavs are seriously listening to any of these offers? People acting like the pick has already been trading the way posters shit on us.

Forgive my ignorance on the topic, couldn't they still go after either of those while still having Wiggins? I feel like they just hit the lottery and they want to give the money back.

they could but if they bought in melo or lebron they would want to switch to win now mode and wiggins still needs time to develop, parker is more of a contribute now player but even then they play the same positions and they may prefer some proven players for a team trying to contend.

It's a bad trade. I don't see the beneficial side of it. We're missing out on the best players in the draft, each of which play a position of need for the Cavs, for a guy whose numbers were very similar to Tristan Thompson's last season... and Alec Burks.
I'd be totally sick.

Wouldn't be too offended, people just like speculating. Most of the "leaked" rumours will likely be totally made up or leaked by teams trying to increase the value of the asset.

Take Wiggins and call it a day. Parker doesnt want to be there.
Unless you know for a fact Lebron is returning.

just heard that reportedly orlando offered afflalo and number 4 and cavs turned it down saying they would want number 12 as well before they begin discussions.

Cavs will find a way to screw it up. They're over-thinking it

It's easy to forget this time of year that, in the NBA, quantity is not better than quality. If you hit on the right player in the right system with the right team, it is priceless.
The only way a deal like this make any sense whatsoever, from where I'm sitting, is if the Cavs still really want to take Embiid but not at No. 1 and they think he might drop to 5. But, even then, it's not a trade you complete before the draft.
You wait to see how the draft plays out, have the Jazz select Embiid at 5 if he's there and then do the deal afterward. Otherwise, you're setting yourself up for disaster.

I bet that's what the Cavs are asking for.

Re: Cleveland listening to offers for 1st pick from Jazz, Sixers, Wolves, Magic
The problem with you dudes who are hating on the Cavs fielding offers is that Wiggins isn't as good as you think he is.
I've been saying this for six months. Based on the amount of rumors floating around, Cavs probably agree with me.
Its very obvious Cleveland feel they need a physical Center big time. They ain't winning sh*t with a skinny ass Wiggins on the wing and Spencer Hawes in the middle.

I still don't get it. :oldlol:
Who are the Cavs taking at 4 if Parker, Wiggins and Embiid are off the board? The last thing they need is a PG/combo guard. They haven't worked out Vonleh, I don't believe. I guess that pick might make some sense...
But still, I don't understand why you just don't take the best player in the draft and be done with it.
-
Re: Cleveland listening to offers for 1st pick from Jazz, Sixers, Wolves, Magic
Ultimately I think the Cavs are still drawn to Embiid. That's who they like and that's who they want, IMO. Even with the injury, I guarantee you the team is still kicking the idea around to still draft him, just not @ #1.
And it would be a brilliant organizational decision.

Then you take the guy you think is the best player at No. 1. This isn't rocket science. Nobody is mandating they have to pick Wiggins if they don't like him. Take Parker. Hell, take Embiid if you think he could recover.
We're not getting any of the three if we trade down. Bet that.

If Embiid is good enough to go in the top 3 in your scenario, then the Cavs should just pick him #1.

I agree. If they think he's that much better than everyone else, just take him. If you trade down and cross your fingers, you're flirting with disaster.
If they love Embiid that much, just take him. I won't complain if they do. I do think he's far and away the best prospect in the draft. I wouldn't have the stones to take him first overall because I like both Wiggins and Parker too and back/foot problems with bigs are a big deal, but that doesn't mean a GM with bigger stones can't roll the dice.
I just don't want to see us foolishly trade out of the Top 3 and miss the boat on the three best players in the draft.

In your mind you obviously think Embiid is still going top 3 , so why are you campaigning for Wiggins now?
I think the Cavs are covering their basis in case he drops to the #4-6 range. They obviously still want him, IMO

It's pretty obvious, isn't it? Embiid is my favorite prospect in the draft, but the injury concerns have me preferring both Wiggins and Parker over him. However, when both of those guys are gone, I can't imagine passing on Embiid at 3.
But, most of these trade talks aren't about the third pick... they're about a pick in the 4-6 range. If I were the Sixers' GM, no way I let Embiid get past me at 3 with both SFs off the board.
That's where I'm at with it.

OK looks like we're on the same page here.
After the news of the Embiid injury first broke, I was also disappointed because I thought there was no way he was worth a top 5 pick.
But...
I believe this comes down to more than what you can see on game tape. I believe the Cavs see something very special in Embiid as a person. He is not the type to let something deter him from reaching his potential. In fact, it will probably have the opposite effect on his game long term. He'll learn to play smarter and work harder to protect himself from injuries.
Obviously to still pick Embiid is risk, but that's okay. Greatness demands taking risks tho.
