Chad Ford-Boston/Minny Garnett Deal

Quote:

If KG's not going to Chicago, where could he go? From what I'm hearing -- and at this point it's just a hot rumor -- the Wolves and Boston Celtics talking about a Garnett deal.

In this scenario, Boston would send Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, and change to Minnesota along with the No. 5 pick in the upcoming draft. In exchange, the Celtics would get Garnett.

While a six-for-one trade would create some awkward roster dilemmas, it could work for Boston in this case because the Celtics would be giving up only one member of their core Jefferson. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves would get an emerging low-post star, a wing player with a lot of upside, another high draft pick and future cap flexibility.

On Saturday, I spoke with Celtics vice president Danny Ainge about the rumor, and he replied that he would not comment on trade discussions. He did say that the Celtics were talking with a lot of teams at the moment about a number of different trade scenarios, but that none of them were close to happening

Take this for what it is worth, however I really doubt anything along these lines happen. KG can opt out in a year so too give up all that might not be a great move but at the same time KG is a top 5 player and you do have to give a lot to get a lot. It would make more sense for a team who could give up enough assets to still be a contender and have the right amount of depth. If the C's did this they would be rail thin on there bench they wouldn't really be contenders as well maybe for the east but not for the NBA crown.

KG + Pierce in the East = at least conference finals

I could live with the deal but I'm not in love with it. I'd like it more if there was a way to retain Green or Jefferson, but you have to take some huge losses to get a guy like Garnett. The team would have three, maybe four years to win a Championshp and then it'd be rebuilding time again, but I'm pretty sure that a Pierce-Garnett duo could beat James's Cavs. Not so sure about Duncan's Spurs.

Let's be real, that deal is absolute rape from Minny's side. No way it happens, if it does, I would be soo happy.

Al Jeff will be a 18 and 12 guy, Green could be a 20 ppg scorer I suppose, and the 5th pick?!?! along with Ratliff's expirer! I would love McHale.

Garnett is great, but that deal has to be much better than anything else being offered.

But they would have nothing else.

They would have Delonte West, Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins, Ryan Gomes, Wally Szczerbiak. Thats better than nothing. Thats defnitely enough when you have KG and Pierce.

Exactly. Just look at the lineup:

PG: Delonte/Rondo
SG: Pierce
SF: Wally/Ryan Gomes
PF: Garnett
C: Perkins

or small lineup

PG: Delonte/Rondo
SG: Pierce
SF: Wally
PF: Ryan Gomes
C: Garnett

That's a nice supporting cast. And they could use the MLE to get another center.

If KG were willing to come to Boston, play for the season, and then opt out of his contract at the end of the year and resign for less money, I'd be willing to give up Al Jeff. As Real Men Wear Green mentioned, giving up Al Jeff is a huge price to pay, but if KG helps us by opting out, our cap space for the 08-09 season would be beautiful. We'd actually be able to sign a mid level star. We'd certainly be contenders with just Pierce, KG and Wally... but another star level player would easily put us over the top... at the very least, we'd run the East...

I just... can't see them trading both Jefferson and the #5. I just can't. Green is good, but those seem like the two major pieces, and when you add Green and a massive expirer in Ratliff, AND Telfair (yeah, he's thought of as garbage, but he's still young), it just seems crazy. When you add in the fact that McHale is one of the worst GM's in pro sports, well, you see where I'm coming from.

Minny fans should LOVE this idea, but also realize that it just won't happen.

Great idea

Minni Fans?

what do twolves fans think of this deal? i don't think it's too bad considering other fake offers we've heard about. jefferson, green, and a pick that could land you horford, wright, noah, connelly, or brewer is a nice young core to develop along with mccants and foye. you'd still be saddled with a lot of lousy contracts, which sucks, but what you gain is solid and gives the team some much needed hope.

from a boston perspective i think it makes them instant contenders IF they plug the center hole with something makeshift. haven't looked at the FA list and don't think they've got much trade potential, but if we can move perkins to the bench with a solid vet 5, we'd be in very good position to take the east (health permitting). it stunts them long term, but gives the c's their first chance at glory in a long time.

Re: Chad Ford-Boston/Minny Garnett Deal

Al Jefferso nhad a fantastic season, but who knows if he can play at that level again, he has been anything but consistent so far in his career (excluding the last season).

The deal isn't all that great, but if they could add Magloire and a veteran point guard who can shoot I'd be happy with it. Even if Minny included Jaric who can play some point guard for the C's. I guess we would send them Scalabrine and someone else to have that work.

I'd like to see this lineup:
CT: Jamal Magloire (MLE)/ Kendrick Perkins
PF: Kevin Garnett/ Ryan Gomes
SF: Paul Pierce/ Tony Allen
SG: Wally Szczerbiak/ Delonte West (6th man at about 30 mpg)
PG: Rajon Rondo/ Vet Point guard (Free agency)

Although didn't KG and Wally have issues?
