Yes he will. The other day on LA radio they were going over the Lakers saying what each player gave them. Criticism most of them, but when Kobe came up they said, "We know he's going to give you amazing offense and all defensive 1st team defense." Analyst don't watch these games as close as people on freaking ISH.

It seems like half the time they don't even watch the damn game
I dont think he deserved it last year either (2nd all-def i mean), but still got in.... just saying, dont be surprised if it happens again...

Good thing the analysts don't actually vote for defensive teams....
he will since you said "book it".. "book it" is the new curse, the opposite happens.
Kobe should not have been on defensive teams for most of the last few seasons. Yes I know he can play D when he wants but for the most part he has been conserving energy on that side of the ball for offense.
he has been undeserving of it for the last 4 years
this is like saying marcus thornton will not make the all star team. obvious. both will not make it because both does not deserve to be in it.
0% chance of him making it.
He certainly shouldn't have been 1st Team in 2011 and he shouldn't have made either team last year. But he managed to make the 2nd team last year. This is the year he falls off.
OP is not exactly making a bold statement. For those who think he will, you'll have to be very wrong...unless he literally turns around his defensive season.
Although he's not playing the greatest defense for his standards, nobody on his position is playing better than him defensively.
Kobe can do so much.:facepalm

Sorry man but the guys a liability on d, he'll prob make the all def team but i'll be fu##ed if your gonna tell me he deserves it

:oldlol:
There's probably literally dozens of guards playing better defense than Kobe this year. 3/4 of the All-Defense guard spots right now should be reserved for Tony Allen, Sefolosha, and Iguodala, and Kobe's not the fourth....not even close.

You're saying Kobe plays better defence than Avery Bradley and Tony Allen?
You're saying Kobe plays better defence than Avery Bradley and Tony Allen?
Sorry, but to be considered right now you have to have played more than five games. Bradley has zero case or argument to be All-Defense right now. Of course I'm sure he's probably played about as much defense in five games than Kobe has all season this year.
I've listed three guards that I think deserve 3/4 of the guard spots on the All-Defense teams: Allen, Sefolosha, Iguodala. I'm sure there's at least 10-15 others that deserve that fourth spot over Kobe.
All defense are usually reserved for two way players or two way superstars. Players that play both ends of the ball. Allen and Thabo are strictly defensive player and not really good at it, considering that's their only job.
Like I said, is there a two way player that deserves a spot over Kobe?
Iguodala is not especially deserving. He has no more a case than Rondo does.
Allen and Sefalosha on the first team. Conley is easily on the 2nd Team and both Jason Kidd and Chris Paul have arguments to make the team. If there was a 3rd Team, you'd have Kidd/Paul, along with Rondo, Iguodala, even Eric Bledsoe in his limited minutes. Also, Jrue Holiday is close enough for a mention.
Kobe is not in this discussion.

Forgot about Conley. He's definitely deserving right now. And I agree, more deserving than Iguodala. Point being, and you helped me prove it, there's a bunch of guards more deserving than Kobe.

Then why the hell is it called the All-Defense team? And Sefolosha and Allen aren't really good at it? Are you really that f***ing stupid? They're the two best lockdown perimeter defenders in the league right now (consistently). Sure, that may be their only job, but who the hell cares? I haven't seen many Grizzlies games this year, but I've watched Thabo plenty, and he's VERY good at what he does.
Kobe's most likely getting 2nd team. Nobody said he was going to get 1st team.

:oldlol:
Kobe wouldn't even deserve it if there were 5 All-Defense teams.

:facepalm
you are pathetic as usual.
As a clipps fan i'll take kobe defending cp on that last shot over sefolosha every day of the week, yes kobe is pretty special offensively but thats where it ends
When Kobe wants, he still plays good and occasionally great defense.
However, the posts I see quoted from the Kobe nut show someone who has no idea what he's talking about. I guess Tony Allen wasn't 1st Team last year, ahead of Bryant. I guess Sefalosha hasn't made the team before. I guess Bruce Bowen wasn't there all the time. I guess I could go on and on and on.
Kobe has 0 chance. Sorry. And the three people that give him a vote will be embarrassing themselves.
And just to answer his question, what two-way guard is playing better defense:
Conley, Kidd, Iguodala, Rondo, Holiday, blah blah...pretty much everyone I mentioned, minus Sefalosha and Allen. Wesley Matthews is also playing better defense. Tyreke Evans is playing better defense. Dwyane Wade's ass is playing better defense.
Thank you for chiming in.

Well, Lakers are 22nd in defense this year and have a losing record, which is a lot to overcome considering that they have had a winning record every year of Kobe's career outside of 04-05 and good defense the last 4-5 seasons.

Just watch a full Celtics game of Bradley then try and tell me he's not deserving. Barring any further injury he should be in one of the teams, and imo the 1st team.
I'm not arguing your point, although I'd consider Iggy a SF. Where's he playing this year?
He has been a great defender at times during his career, but he hasn't deserved an all-defensive first or second team since at least '09, and didn't necessarily deserve every selection he got even when he was younger, such as making the all-defensive team in '07. Out of the all-defensive selections he did receive, I think he deserved the first team selections in '00 and '08 and the second team selections in '00 and '02. A few other years he got first team, I think second team would have been more appropriate.
I'm not sure he makes either team this year with how bad the Lakers have been, and in particular, their defense. Although Kobe's individual play has been a big story and might be enough.
If he gets it again this year, unfortunately this award lost all credibility.

Ben Wallace and Bruce Bowen would have something to say about your comments. Kobe hasn't deserved any all-defensive selections for YEARS - what a travesty to the true defensive specialists that guard the best players night in, night out.
"well, Kobe was selected in the all defensive team many times" will be how people point out how meaningless this award is.
Kobe will get an All-D vote, some voter will be either stupid, a Kobe lover or both.
if he doesnt it would be a huge robbery. according to stats and watching games kobe is one of the best defenders in the league.

He's not deserving.
He's played 4 or 5 games. So he's not deserving or near the conversation. He'll still have played only 50 games by the end of the year. Nothing wrong with saying he missed too missed games and shouldn't make it. He most certainly is not going to merit 1st Team based on 50 games and how he plays at his best. Not at all.
kobe is best defenser at shooting guard position this year :confusedshrug:

Of course he'll make it.
He always makes it regardless of how horrible and inconsistent his defense is.
Yes he will.
Who cares? He already has more than MJ. He's set, doesn't need anymore of them.
Who cares? He already has more than MJ. He's set, doesn't need anymore of them.
And yet, no sane person will ever say he's a better defender than MJ.
Kobe is close to MJ on the offensive side, he's very similar to him no doubt.
On the defensive side however, he's not close.

But I've had Kobe stans tell me that, not only is Kobe the best perimeter defender of all-time, he's a top 10 defender all-time -- citing Kobe's All-Defensive teams as proof.

In terms of skillet? Sure. If we're debating impact and efficiency, it's not even a legit discussion. Jordan's offensive impact was bottomless.
