Pistsons Claim Referees Favor Dwyane Wade
Curry gets tossed as Pistons fall
Pistons coach Michael Curry thought it was an obvious foul.
Ditto for the rest of the Pistons.
But that's not how the officials saw it.
On a play in which there appeared to be contact, Rodney Stuckey was stymied by Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade with 1.9 seconds left Sunday causing Curry to receive the first ejection of his coaching career and the Pistons fell to the Heat, 101-96 at the Palace.
The No. 5 Heat (37-32) is three games ahead of the No. 7 Pistons in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
But the last sequence left Curry and the players shaking their heads.
"They were calling us for those same fouls all game long, riding Wade to the basket," said Tayshaun Prince, who scored 14 points, but missed several key shots down the stretch. "You can see why Coach Curry got thrown out the game because of that situation, and we felt what D-Wade did to Stuckey at the end of the game, they were calling us for those fouls on the other end over the course of the game.
"Obviously you know in late-game situations they are going to try to let us play, but I think you saw the inconsistency there when Stuck' drove on that play and got rode all the way to the basket, and that was pretty much the game right there."
The Heat's Udonis Haslem then made a jumper off an offensive rebound with 6.3 seconds left to give the Heat a 97-96 lead.
Curry called a time-out to set up a play for Stuckey.
He drove right and it appeared Wade was riding him all the way and was able to block Stuckey's shot. Wade picked up the loose ball and Curry got two technicals, which carries an automatic ejection.
"I guess the ref saw it different," said Stuckey, who returned to the lineup after missing one game with a bad cold. "I thought I went to the basket aggressively while he had 10 of his fingers on me and they didn't call the foul.
"He's an All-Star so I guess you are going to get those calls."
Not only did Wade foul him, he also ended up out of bounds. But nope. The officials let that go too.

Whats the point of this thread. Another team/player complains about the refs. This happens to every team and player.

Re: Pistsons Claim Referees Favor Dwyane Wade
I can't stand when fans or players blame the result of a whole game on one play.
Why were the Heat even up 1 point? The Pistons were in control all game, and then choked down the stretch... then they want to blame blowing a game-long, double-digit lead on the last play? :applause:

it was more than one play, and that one play where stuckey was fouled could have leveled the game... its just the fact that the refs are so inconsistent, you could argue all day whether that was a foul or not - but the fact is it would have been a foul if dwyane wade had the ball.
wow a poster named jrong all on wades nutz next thing you know pleezebelieve will be defending lebron!
All I've got to say is that there is only ONE superstar in the league this year who has been given two marginal foul calls in the last seconds of game, one of which gave his team a win and the other which could have. And that superstar's name WAS NOT Dwyane Wade.
In fact, Wade played this other superstar's team and with over a minute left--in other words, not in the last few seconds-- was bumped with the same degree of contact, but was not awarded the foul. Instead of being given foul shots, he was given an ejection from the game after he complained about it.

the NBA is showbusiness at least they do a decent job with the balancing act
if stuckey starts playing like dwyane wade then yes he will get those calls, almost
-
Re: Pistsons Claim Referees Favor Dwyane Wade
Superstars get calls...... PERIOD.
Always have always will.
Now.... that "foul" was very close and if Wade fell, it could've been an offensive foul.
A. Wade had position on Stuckey
B. Wade's body was positioned well
C. One can even argue that Stuckey ran into him, since Wade beat him to the spot.
D. Was there contact down low during the shot? slightly, mostly created by Stuckey, Wade stood his ground.
E. The block up top was clean.
Now... people wanna complain about the call he got.
A. Wade WAS bumped
B. Wether or not the bump was hard or not is debatable, but Wade "sold" it. If Stuckey felt he was bumped he should've sold it, but he wasn't.
C. When Arfalo was called for the handchecking..... that was an obvious call that was easy for anybody to see, not a quick borderline call that's too close to call. They were isolated in the perimeter in front for all to see and Arfalo clearly had his hand on him stopping Wade from driving. A clear violation of the rules, ANYBODY would've got that call.
As far as Wade stepping outside..... really? some of you have got to be joking.
Was there even a ref in the area to make that call? NFL refs need instant replay and often debate that for a minute, how is an NBA ref gonna make that call on the spot?
All in all, the foul at the end is very debatable, it was very borderline that could've actually gone either way, that hardly gets called in the last seconds specially on a star. So cut the whining.
Wade has been on the other end of the no call at the end of the game a few times this season as well. And there was actually a few times that Wade didn't get the call even tho he was obviously fouled.

Try convincing them of that.
I never thought he was out of bounds, I was very impressed with his Chris Carter like sideline balance.
That entire play itself was impressive.
He played great position defense, clearly/cleanly blocked the shot up top (the bottom is close, but he was standing his ground the offensive player jumped into him), got the ball, tip toed the sideline and had the presence to pass the ball to an open teammate.

Re: Pistsons Claim Referees Favor Dwyane Wade
Thank god for the refs today.
If they weren't favoring us as always we wouldn't have beat the Grizzlies. Phew!
Honestly, I find it hillarious that the first thread going into deep discussion about a superstar getting calls is that of Wade especially when he has probably been the least beneficial of all the stars including Kobe, Bron, Paul and Howard.
We get soo much help from the refs that we are a beasty 38-32... *sigh*
I've always said it. Wade is the easiest to blame because you can always say, he got superstar calls.
The funny thing is all the Kobe and Lebron fanboys have come in here and agreed when the in the other thread pretty much every non bias supporter said that neither were fouls.
But what can I say, Wade is the best player in the world, and Lebron fanboys are jealous doing whatever they can to make him look bad.

The following players get preferencial treatment from the refs:
Kobe
Lebron
Wade
Duncan
why? because they're superstars.. Is it right? debatable, but it's not just one guy. Don't hate because he's having a better season than your boy.

I wouldn't really stereotype Wade fans by what clowns like jrong and plowclown spew out on this board. Their entire lives seem to revolve around pumping Wade and dealing with their MASSIVE inferiority complex when it comes to LeBron. The Heat fans I've come across on other boards aren't like this, albeit, a little overexcited over their favorite player being relevant again for the first time in 2 years.
-
Re: Pistsons Claim Referees Favor Dwyane Wade
The real story should be Curry's dumbass getting ejected. He should be fined (or just flat out fired, really) for not waiting until the end of the game for his tirade. He cost his team a chance to tie the game.
-
Re: Pistsons Claim Referees Favor Dwyane Wade
Wade fans sure have a "us against the world' mentality ...
Lebron fans have a "get the officiating bias scene away from us" mentality.
I don't care what people think about favoring and what not, because with Wade people will always take the easy way out and point the finger at the refs.
What I will dispute is whether they were fouls and clearly all of them weren't so I don't see what there is to discuss.

Wade isn't even my favorite player on the Heat.
As for you, its kind of sad trying to present yourself as a Bulls fan when you cheer more for Lebron then your whole team.
I don't care what you think and the only reason you came in here to post was due to the little feeling deep inside where you know Wade has been better this season.

Re: Pistsons Claim Referees Favor Dwyane Wade
Wade get's a lot of love from the refs. It's no worse than what Lebron, Kobe, or any other superstar. People need to just quit complaining about it already. You guys act like the NBA refs just now started to be bias.
I don't like it, but it is what it is.
Wade fans sure have a "us against the world' mentality ...
We've been conditioned that way by for the past six years by Wade's treatment-- or lack thereof-- by the media....
Seriously, do you remember all the amazing games and highlights from Wade's rookie season? No? Well, that's because you never saw any of them on TV because the only rookies whose games were aired were Melo (who?) and Bron! There's more footage of Wade's rookie year on youtube than there was ever shown on television.
Then came the Shaq trade, and Wade's statistical improvement was all-about Shaq. It had nothing to do, of course, with the fact that his shot attempts increased by 25% or that he was only sharing the offense with one other player (Shaq) instead of two (Lamar and Caron). And whatever Wade did, the caveat "plays with Shaq" was always attached. It didn't matter if Shaq was sitting out entire fourth quarters or injured and sitting out completely-- the disclaimer was always "Wade has Shaq".
Then, last year-- the one lost to injury-- it was just a whole media-pile-on on top of Wade. I vividly remember JVG and Mark Jackson saying Wade wasn't a top five shooting guard during a broadcast. That's right-- they didn't say that Wade's wasn't a top five player or even top five guard. They said he wasn't a top five shooting guard. (So, it's kind of hilarious to see them on his sack now).
And the Olympics-- that was fun. Clearly, NBC hadn't banked on the fact that Wade was going to be the best player on Team USA. It was amusing to watch them try to scramble to adjust.
And now in the last month, he's finally starting to get some loooong overdue consideration in the best-in-the-world conversation. Of course, to get it he had to put up numbers over that month that Kobe and LBJ have only dreamed about.
So, yeah, overall Wade fans may be a little sensitive and defensive about all this. I believe I've now explained pretty succinctly why this would be the case.

You're just sad, sir. You continually call me out when I've told you repeatedly that I don't want you to talk to me or even to acknowledge me because you've demonstrated over and over that you have nothing to contribute to an intelligent conversation. There are several Cavs fans around here whose thoughts I respect, but you don't have any intelligent thoughts, unless we're supposed to count the insults you resort to because you can't back up any of your own arguments rationally.
But, what's pathetic is that you masquerade as if you're a Chicago Bulls fan, when in reality all you are is the biggest James groupie this side of LeBron 23 and PB. Just pitiful....

Wade wasn't expected to be this good. The NBA decides which games are going to be nationally-televised before the season begins. So that's why. He still got some love when he went to the secound round.
Then came the Shaq trade, and Wade's statistical improvement was all-about Shaq. Can you really blame him ? Wade last year was playing injured, on a horrible team and he was nowhere near the level he was before or the level he is now. He had a poor season by his standards. Not in the top 5 is probably absurd, but it's easy to forget about someone when he's on a losing team and playing badly.
And by the way, Wade's MVP case is A LOT louder than LeBron's last year. And LeBron had similar numbers/team record. So I'm not sure about that "The media ignore Wade" theory.
-
Re: Pistsons Claim Referees Favor Dwyane Wade
So I'm not sure about that "The media ignore Wade" theory.
Do you know that Wade was, for the most part, never even referenced in the same sentence as LeBron until after the 2006 Finals? If you go back and read the NBA coverage prior to that series, the two players were rarely grouped together in articles, even though they were both from the Class of 2003.
And even after that, the sentences were written "LeBron James and Dwyane Wade..." as opposed to "Dwyane Wade and LeBron James...". But, prior to Wade's Finals performance, LeBron the majority of the time was treated completely independently in writeups, as one who was in a separate class.
So, to break this down, even though Wade's "big three category" stat production was not that far behind LeBron in any of their first three years durng the regular season and the two players' stats were even closer if you looked at secondary categories, he was rarely mentioned in the same sentence as James in the press. And even though Wade had been to the playoffs both of his first two years while James hadn't yet been there and he had already won three series and played like a superstar, he still wasn't designated in print in the same grouping with LeBron.
In fact, Wade had to produce one of the greatest playoff series performances ever, just to get his name in the same breath coming after that of LeBron James. And I've made this comment before, but I honestly believe that if LeBron had been the one in the Finals putting on the same performance that Wade had, the media would have crowned him the GOAT-in-waiting on the spot. But, Wade had to do it just to get journalists to write "LeBron James and Dwyane Wade."
The troll above accused me of having a massive inferiority complex pertaining to James. That's not true in regards to the player comparison because I do not believe LeBron is a better player than Wade at all. But, it is true when it comes to the player respect factor.
You see when LeBron James came into the league, the NBA rolled out the red carpet for him. Dwyane Wade had to kick in the door.
His first struggle on a personal level was to get the world to notice him in spite of the blinding glare that from the spotlight that beamed on LBJ and Carmelo. His next struggle was to get people to see that he was not simply Shaq's sidekick and that he played in nobody's shadow. His next struggle after that was to get the world to acknowledge that he was still an elite player when he came back healthy and that he wasn't just a flash-in-the-pan. Now his struggle is to force everyone to accept that he plays the game as well as anyone and he takes a back seat to no one.
