I'm from a very small town in southern Illinois,McLeansboro population 2,500. Its located in Hamilton County which has a total population of less than 8,000. In McLeansboro we have nothing of really any interest besides our high school basketball, the McLeansboro Foxes, and our one claim to fame, Jerry Sloan. In the professional world he is known as "Mr.Bull" for being a star with the Chicago Bulls and the first Bull in franchise history being selected first in the '66 expansion draft but in McLeansboro he will always be known as the "Fabulous Fox". Jerry is still a resident of McLeansboro and spends his off seasons here. To us in McLeansboro he's just another good ol' boy. Every hunting season you never know who he will hunting with him, Greg Ostertag and Karl Malone being two of his favorites to bring back home to McLeansboro.Jerry is 100% what you see it was you get, he isn't putting on a country boy act for anyone, he truly is the humble, and giving. He has done so much for our little poor town here I couldn't even begin to name all the things he has done from giving a Christmas to the less fortunate familys in town, to buying are high school a greenhouse, building a AWESOME playground for the children, Jerry does too much to even try to name all the things. I have even been fortunate enough to get to share a few beers with him a couple of times at the local Elks Club. But anyway I'm getting off of my point, as I often do. This summer we was pleased to find out that Jerry was being inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. When you see the Utah Jazz play that physical, hard nose game just know that they got it from their coach. We may not always be the most talented team in Mcleansboro but we will out hustle and just be plain damn meaner than the other team and that is why we win and that is why Jerry has had his success in Utah. Watching the Jazz play on t.v. often makes me laugh its the same offense and defense that we was taught during are high school days at McLeansboro. We are so proud of our "Fabulous Fox" and just wanted to share a little about our hometown hero with you guys.

"I don't care if he's 19 or 30. If he's going to be on the floor in the NBA, he's got to be able to step up and get after it. We can't put diapers on him one night, and a jockstrap the next night. It's just the way it is." — Jerry Sloan on second year guard C.J. Miles, the youngest player on the 2006–07 Utah Jazz.
In 1976 Sloan took coaching job at his alma mater University of Evansville and withdrew 5 days later. Later that season the Evansville Purple Aces plane crashed killing the whole team and all 29 people on the plane.
