A center can never be the GOAT basketball player. Too tall, zero appeal to the masses.. most of them have virtually zero charisma/charm.
Michael Jordan
the rest
Jordan
Kareem
Russell

1. LeBron
2. Jordan
3. Kareem

If Kareem is considered the GOAT to somebody, it's probably due to his longevity and overall basketball career.

Aren't those what you should use to judge a player on the GOAT list? Or does charisma/marketability play a role?

You sounded like peak and prime wise Kareem was not good enough to be called the goat and if your point was this, I disagree with it.
Gratuitous plug of my thread

I don't really care if people have Kareem GOAT or not. People don't think the same way to draw the same conclusions on their GOAT lists. You and I probably think marketability/charisma has not play or role (logically, anyways), but some have used it. Not saying it's right, but it can influence somebody's criteria.
My reasoning as to why Kareem is considered GOAT is going off how much people look at what Kareem accomplished/stands out the most... and that's his longevity and total career. Going into his peak play:
You sounded like peak and prime wise Kareem was not good enough to be called the goat and if your point was this, I disagree with it.
Yeah, my bad if I came off that way. Kareem's peak is as good as any player who's played the game.
I have him at the #2 center behind Wilt. He was a great player. One of the best ever.
IMO, Kareem is the greatest if we consider overall basketball resume (HS, college and NBA).
But my criteria is who is purely the best basketball player ever (as in ability), and while Kareem has a case to #1 on that, I feel like Jordan has the strongest case, followed by Wilt and Kareem.
Number 4 for me.
1. MJ
2. Russell
3. Wilt
4. Kareem
5. Magic
6. Bird
7. Kobe
8. Duncan
9. Shaq
10 Hakeem
11. Lebron
12. Oscar

LMAO @ Kobe at #7.
Yea if you take into account college it's no question. He is the GOAT in basketball, but he's not the GOAT in the NBA. If you only looked at his accomplishments as an NBA player, it'd be hard to put him over MJ.

Yeah, Russell and Kareem are definitely #1 and #2 in some order if you include college.
I have Kareem as the greatest basketball player to ever play the game

:oldlol: :lol :oldlol: :oldlol: :lol
I have him as A GOAT, I don't just have 1 GOAT
The funny thing here is that before Kareem complained about his GOAT standing, or how the Lakers treated him, he was mostly not top 2 on people's GOAT list here in ISH.
Kareem is the only player who was a GOAT candidate at every level he played. Wilt, Magic, Jordan and Bird are only for the NBA, Russell (the closest one) wasn't a HS legend, Oscar falls a little behind in the NBA sector. So, if you put some weight at every level they played (say, 10% H.S, 20% College, 70% pros), he may have the most distinguished career.
Wilt :oldlol: :oldlol: :oldlol:
I have him 4th. Would have him higher if he wasn't a filthy moslem.
I have Kareem as the #1 GOAT.
KAJ is my GOAT. I tend to lower the value of smaller players in comparison to incredibly skilled C's.
If you get to pick 1 player...who ya got? MJ or KAJ? That chit is easy money for me. KAJ all day.
1. LeBron

I don't understand the "necessity" of a single, unanimous player.
Why not "tier" the lists? Players and positions and eras are so varied...

yep :oldlol:
I got MJ as GOAT but KAJ has a good argument too.
Why do we always have to have a #1?
Why can't we just pay homage for those that played this great game?
As a Jordan fan, KAJ is the only player IMO that objectively has a small argument against Jordan. He has it all - Dominant on both ends, great production in the regular season AND the post season (didn't drop off dramatically in the playoffs like some other greats), MVP's, FMVP's, rings, longevity, etc.
HE is the player that should be 2nd on everybodies list.

Except that Russell has more rings and Wilt was better than Kareem when Kareem entered the league.
I had him #1 over Jordan for the longest time until someone convinced me that anyone can put up those kind of stats if you're playing with the #3 GOAT of all time Magic Johnson.
