Trade Revisited: Lakers trade Caron Butler for Wizards Center Kwame Brown

:biggums:

What kind of crack was Mitch smoking?

You trade a 24 year old budding two way wing elite 3 and D player who just finished averaging 16ppg and 6rpg off the ball next to Kobe....

For a center who clearly was already a bust

A 23 yr old center who just came off averaging 7ppg and less than 5rpg along with basically the exact same efficiency despite being spoon-fed baskets at the rim

:biggums: :biggums: :biggums:

This has to be the worst trade in NBA history
:facepalm

Caron Butler was never an “elite” wing.

Kwame was a 7’0 first overall pick. That’s the kind of player Lebron would have worked WONDERS with.

Kobe just never knew how to maximize the talent of his teammates. The bball IQ wasnt quite there for it.

And what’s ironic is that it eventually paved the way for the best trade in history.

I don't get it

How did trading Butler for Kwame pave way for the same Butler-Kwame trade?

Cuz if you're implying the Lakers trade to get Gasol was a better deal for LA then what the wizards got trading Kwame away then you're trippin

:biggums:

The trade for Gasol immediately turned playoff futility into multiple titles.

What did the Wiz achieve with Caron??

At least know something about NBA history before claiming something is the worst in NBA history. You don't even have to go back that far to see a trade that was clearly worse in OKC shipping Harden for nothing

The thunder admitted at the time that they didn't want to trade harden

The move was basically them choosing between harden and ibaka long-term which was a dumb move to basically choose ibaka but they thought they needed balance between the back court and front court

Trading Caron Butler for Kwame Brown in order to help a young Kobe who needs help to make a playoff run makes no sense whatsoever.

They basically formed the big 3 that would create their entire identity and all star trio for almost a decade with Butler

How close did Kwame ever sniff to all star status?

This is considering the fact that Kobe and the Lakers pushed Kwame to playing the best basketball of his career and he was still major buttcheeks

Almost a decade :biggums: Arenas/Jamison/Butler played TWO full seasons together :oldlol: And accomplished barely winning records and immediate first round losses. To call them a Big 3 is an insult to real Big 3's who actually had prolonged success and won multiple titles

Yeah and guess what

Before Butler, the Wizards had been on a 10 yr playoff drought at that point

And okay, they played 4 seasons together

And they were huge for that city as far as identity and establishing a consistent winning playoff quality team

Who was Kwame Brown??

Even when trading away Kwame for Pau, the Lakers still gave away Marc who was an all star caliber center for them for about 5yrs, close to Pau level.

Yes, the Lakers trade pushed them over the top but they gave away about equal talent in the long run to a team that need pieces for the future.

Re: Trade Revisited: Lakers trade Caron Butler for Wizards Center Kwame Brown

That was such a ****ing terrible trade. Like why trade Caron for Kwame when we drafted Bynum with a 13th overall pick??? Butler wasn't a star player but Kwame was literally a negative offensive player and just missed half a season in Washington.
