Tyson Chandler is the Magikarp of the NBA

"Splash Tyson, splash!"
okay, i don't think i've ever made a rage thread before, but having not missed a single bobcats game this entire season (with the exception of the cavs game, unfortunately), i've come to the conclusion that tyson chandler is near useless. seriously, what is this guy's deal? i'd never really seen him play for the hornets and only heard good things about him, and he comes to the bobcats and can't do a damn thing.
really, whenever we feed this guy in the post, he either walks with it or turns it over. he doesn't even dribble. ever. he's so bad that he can't manage to get a shot off when he gets the ball down low, and if by some off chance he does, his touch is so bad the ball goes flying off the glass faster than an illegal alien running from la migra.
on top of that, he has one of the lowest basketball IQs i've ever witnessed. he constantly commits 3 seconds in the key (both offensive and defensive) and can't catch passes. he sets illegal picks and never seems to learn from his mistakes.
the only thing i really knew about tyson before coming to the cats was that he can jump. and that's true, he can. he does rebound decently, but there are a ton of better rebounders in the nba (including his teammate who's about 5 or 6 inches shorter than him, gerald wallace). he can dunk pretty well, but he's rarely in the position where he's able to do so, and even then he'll rarely catch the pass. hell, tonight against the jazz he literally missed a wide open dunk.
as a 'cats fan, it's pretty infuriating considering we got rid of emeka for him. emeka's not the best, but he's a solid defender and has a pretty damn good offensive arsenal. i'd say we should trade tyson for someone else, anyone else, but i doubt any teams would be willing to pick him up. i genuinely hope this guy gets injured and nazr eats all his minutes, the team performs way better with him in the lineup. **** you, tyson.
would any team realistically be willing to pick up tyson's contract?
Re: Tyson Chandler is the Magikarp of the NBA
I think a player like Chandler would only succeed around a PG that can dish to him in the right moments. He cannot create his own offense for anything.
Re: Tyson Chandler is the Magikarp of the NBA
The people who said Chandler was an all star level center with the hornets never watched him play. When I said he has zero offensive ability, I wasn't kidding.
Instead of talking about what he can't do, it's a shorter list to talk about what he can do (when totally healthy):
He can defend the pick and roll pretty well. He's a pretty good 1-on-1 post defender, but has a tendency to get in foul trouble which negates that. He is pretty good at tipping in missed shots, but not a dominant offensive rebounder. He can run the floor well and jump high for a guy his size, which means he can catch and finish lobs. But other than that, he has ZERO ability to create a shot and finish. He can't shoot, and that includes FT's. So basically, if he's not finishing lobs or easy putbacks, he's relegated to setting picks on offense.

Bulls hoped he would evolve.
Horrnets thought he had evolved.
Bobcats knows he has devolved.
Re: Tyson Chandler is the Magikarp of the NBA
The funny thing is I remember him hitting jumpers with ease when he was a rookie on the bulls.:lol

Re: Tyson Chandler is the Magikarp of the NBA
As another posted stated, he's only a notch above Ben Wallace at the offensive end. He can score if playing with a great PG, but if not, he's useless. He can rebound and block shots, but he's very foul prone. Not a guy you want.
Re: Tyson Chandler is the Magikarp of the NBA
love this thread. everything about it. might have to start using 'magikarp' as an adjective for anything bland, simple, or one dimensional. thank you for the inspiration.

I always saw Chandler more as Wobbuffet more than anything.
