Players who should not have been traded

Think of your team for a sec, not a team you are not a fan of.

In the last 10 years, think of a player you wished your team hadn't trade away.

My pick is Marcus Camby.
I didn't see any logic to trading a defensiv big who had quite a few years left, and looking at him today he is still a very good player.

Who is yours?

The Caron Butler trade...he was Kobe's best friend in LA at the time. I thought he was going to be with the Lakers for a long time.

Elton Brand would have been perfect with the bulls.

Tough one......do you keep the player and suffer through mediocrity or get better in the future without him. With Brand the Bulls were just above garbage but not quite the playoff team we see now.

I can understand the trade reasoning though.

I will expand on my topic......

Name a player on your team who clearly was helping your team win and your team actually went backwards partly because of the deal, Thus making you resent the trade or in essence a player who should not have been traded.

You're a Laker fan, and over the last ten years, the guy you wish hadn't been traded is Caron frigging Butler?

Wow. That takes being a Bryant ******* to a new level.

Re: Players who should not have been traded

The spurs have never traded away a good player that i can recall, but they have let players walk for nothing: Stephen Jackson, Raja Bell (tried out for the team but didnt make it), Derrick Anderson, Speedy Claxton etc.

Losing Stephen Jackson is a positive, not a negative.

Re: Players who should not have been traded

I never liked the trade of Barkley to the Rockets. Barkley was a star, and they really didn't give up any star players, but Cassell could have been their point for many years, Horry was a decent forward, and Bryant and Brown were solid backup big men. On paper this doesn't look too bad, but I think it screwed up the team chemistry and after Barkely left, the Rockets could have used the guys they gave up.

Now, now, lets be cool on this one. That's his choice of player. Caron would been a nice 2nd option next to Kobe and he is clearly is better than Kwame.

What's your player you wish your team had not traded away???

Elton Brand should not have been traded. The Bulls basically have nothing for him now.

How can I miss the point when you missed the purpose of the thread?

You may have been looking for him to say.....Shaq? He didnt . He said Caron Butler and I respect that since Butler was a good upcoming player and traded him for one of the worst bust ever drafted 1st overall!!!! I can understand that.

Qwyjibo 08-13-2007 01:37 AM

Re: Players who should not have been traded

But if the Lakers didn't trade away Shaq then Kobe would've left and the team still wouldn't be too good. I can see how he's saying the Butler trade.

They traded Dennis Rodman for Will Perdue, worst trade ever.

If you're a Laker fan, you have to wish O'Neal wasn't traded. The franchise has been irrelevant since he left and is showing no signs of picking up. Going the Shaq direction wouldn't have won them any titles but the Bryant direction has been constant drama on a garbage team.

Only a Bryant disciple would argue that the one player they wished they had back was Caron Butler and not Shaq.

Nothing but a better team. Even though he was good for them, trading him paved the way for what we see now in Chi.

This shouldn't be an argue thread. Just post your player on your team that you wish your team had not traded. Jeezus, the thread is self-explanatory. Butler was the man's choice and it was a good one. They got nothing for Butler.

They got Odom and Butler. Why can't you contribute to the thread? Based on you avy, are you a Celtics fan? Why be hell bent on trying to argue?

johndeeregreen 08-13-2007 01:59 AM

Re: Players who should not have been traded

Yeah, they got Odom and Butler, which they (stupidly) turned into Odom and Brown; the end result.

Contribute to this thread? I'm discussing the poster's choice. This is a message board. It's about discussion. What, nobody can criticize anyone else's choices now? Everybody just post what they think without considering others'? That eliminates the purpose of this entire forum. If some is scared that another won't agree with them and doesn't feel like defending that choice, they really shouldn't be allowed near the internet.

Re: Players who should not have been traded

I've never really regreted a trade the Sixers have done. Players that have left Philly have either didn't really taken off to what was expected or was a star on a team that was downward spiralling or would have hindered the progression of the team. I'm more dissappointed in the players we seem to get back from a trade. Especially the return we got for Barkley.

Somehow, someway this turns into another Kobe thread. Freakin get a life.
Maybe Shaq's not his favorite person in the world and didn't mind seeing him leave. Probably why he chose Caron Butler so don't blame him. My choice is obviously...Eddie Jones. Would've been nice to see him play as a Laker longer seeing how Phil likes big guards. I didn't particularly like Glen RIce at the time, I thought he was a liability on defense (with his bad knees and all).

Re: Players who should not have been traded

Hateraid, I guess since for the last 10 years the Sixers have been A.I. and (the other 14 guys), so really the guys they've traded really didn't matter one way or another.

knickscity 08-13-2007 02:29 AM

Re: Players who should not have been traded

I am quite glad that this thread can be discussed almost for a whole without an argument.

Its real simple.....name a player on your team, not another team you are not a fan of, that you think should not have been traded.

Very simple, the average person who can read and comprehend with common sense can and will understand it. So simple.

Re: Players who should not have been traded

God sakes. Look at Butler right now. He is an all star damnit and I expected him to become an all star.

We got absolutely nothing in return for Butler. We got Laron Profit, a injury prone player and a first round bust, Kwame Brown. Laron Profit was waived and Brown hasn't even developed yet.

I didn't care much for the Shaq trade, he was a great player in LA, but he was at the age where players usually decline.

my warriors trading VC for jamison... we would have been better... atleast VC took toronto to the playoffs... jamison is a good play and always has been... but in the first 5 years of there careers VC was sick... he would have sold seats too.

very good points. Butler is an All-star for a lottery bust.

I kinda forgot about that 4-5 swap.

At least Antawn had a good career. It wasn't exactly "lopsoded" as far as the talent GS recieved.

Re: Players who should not have been traded

I can't think of anybody I regret the Blazers getting rid of. We traded away big names but I was fine with all of them:

Drexler: I'm glad he got his ring and it was necessary for rebuilding. Dang near worked too in 2000.

Sheed: Head case and the Blazers were going down anyway.

Zach: Head case with 0 defense.

Jermaine: He was a whiny jerk and I wouldn't want him back to this day. Plus, the trade seamed logical at the time since we were close to a championship and Dale was better against Shaq. Though, I know many other Blazer fans will say Jermaine because talent wise this was the most unbalanced of all the trades.

Brian Grant: He had injury problems and Kemp came off a decent season. In retrospect, I would have kept Grant but at the time most approved of the trade because it was frickin Kemp.

I guess this is the worst one I can think of (which really isn't anything still): Steve Blake for Jamal McGloire. Though, we now have Blake back anyway.

Re: Players who should not have been traded

Chris Webber from Golden State. Never liked that trade not from the day it was announced and don't like it any more today.

How many teams trade away a rookie of the year, no.1 pick, blue chip big man after just one season where he's a standout? Insane.

Young HkM 08-13-2007 03:27 AM

Re: Players who should not have been traded

Yeah i was just wondering why the hell the bulls traded Brand.

Kemp shouldn't have been traded either. He probably would have stayed of crack if Seattle didn't trade him.

Oh, there is a bad trade I guess. Blazers traded down (passing on Deron Williams and Chris Paul) for Martell Webster. Yikes.

I'm kinda pushing one of first threads not to end on arguments back and forth.

So i was letting you re-think it over, hoping nobody would jump all over it first.
