Nah not quite. Closer here.

He got there easily in the Mcdonalds dunk contest though. So easily some think the rims were low...but I doubt they were.

It was a nice dunk though. Im suprised it wasnt in the ESPN highlights.

I don't think he ever got to rim level during a game. Josh Smith is the only one I've seen do it.

Hard to tell cuz of how deep in Pleezebelieve's mouth it always is

edit: and yeah that pic that Kblaze posted is definitely at rim level. I mean his arm is almost straight out in the rim

The dude was still going up when he dunked it. So effortlessly.

Too bad he won't do a dunk contest. His fans deserve it.

Jordan (at 6'6") could easily get his head at rim level. But with this guy (6'8"), it's questionable (even though it looks like he's a little short), yet some people consider him to be the most athletic player in NBA history?

Please don't bring up Jordan. We are talking about LeBron. Noone in this thread is comparing him to Jordan. Don't let this thread get out of hand.

Lebron is actually 6'9" in shoes but he is also called the most athletic player ever because he weighs 260 pounds and still has a 44 inch vertical. Jordan's was around 48 inches though.

Jordan had a 48 inch vertical? I doubt it. That's put him at 6 inches above the rim, something like nose level to it.

Kblaze8855

Yea that just doesnt seem likely. Ive never seen any visual evidence of anyone having better than about a 42 inch vertical even running. Ive seen pictures of people using that vert measuring machine(the tower with the things you jump up and hit). 42 is the highest ive seen anyone get. 48 inches is just a number people pulled out of the air. If hes jumping 48 inches off a vertical hes probably 50+ running. Hes then like 8 inches over the rim. Somewhere throat high or more. Jordan refused to do a vertical test I believe saying he didnt want to limit himself whatever that means. 38? I buy that. 40+ on the run. Not 48.

I'm guessing he meant something along the lines of not wanting to know how high he can jump, and rather just know he can jump really, really high. Probably didn't think there was a need to know exactly how high. I might not want to know either if I was Jordan. Might think I'm an extremely high jumper, and turn out to have a lower-than expected vert.

Only players I've seen go high enough to the rim are Josh Smith on probably a couple occassions, and when Gerald Green looked INTO the rim vs the Raptors. The man was looking down into the rim.

James White going for the top of the backboard. he came up a few inches short and the angle makes it hard to judge him vs the rim...but id bet hed headlevel or more. Easily.

No, you just spammed, and given the Lebron > Jordan thread you made a few days ago, it was only a matter of time before you started that stupid sh*t up again.

Nate Robinson's standing vertical has been measured at right around 44 inches.

Yes it was. highest ive seen listed in the draft combine. And its pretty easy to believe. He did it the year before he came out officially though. He was overall #1 in the tests and didnt want to lower that by doing it again when he was sure he was staying in the draft.

As for Jordan's vertical I've seen his head right around the rim so considering Jordan is 6'6 1/2" in shoes that puts his vertical at about 41-42 inches atleast. Now Jordan himself had said he has been eye level with the rim and your eyes are usually about 4-5 inches below the top of your head so that puts his vertical around 46 inches if he actually was eye level with the rim. I have heard his max vertical at everything from 42-48 so who knows...all I know is MJ looked like he jumped higher than Vince Carter who recorded a 43 inch max vertical when he was drafted and Lebron who I've heard has a 44 inch vertical.

This is nothing. I'd said it a million time when Cincy played Kentucky in the second round in Indy I believe, James White went up for an ally oop and the bottom of his chin was level with the top of the rim. I've mentioned that here a few times over the years since it happened.

It was a missed dunk so I don't think you'll ever be able to find a pic or vid of it, but they showed the replay a bit so I didn't base this off of the live feed.

His chin was literally above the rim!

No this was an in game dunk attempt during the NCAA tournament. Round 2 vs Kentucky in Indianapolis. I believe Kentucky was the 2 seed and Cincy the 7 seed. They almost pulled off the upset. The game was intense cause it's a geographic rivalry.

It was an ally oop attempt, but the ball slipped through his hands. That vid there is about 2-3 inches lower than where he was in that game.

the kid is phenomenal. he's the last player i can think of that has lived up to his hype. he makes those dunks look effortless.

i still can't believe that POR let him get that last layup so easily. at least foul the guy or try to take a charge.

Never mind where his head was, did you see how quickly he exploded to the rim on the change of pace to start the drive?  That's unbelievable for a guy his size. Probably the only guy I've seen get from point A to point B faster than that is "that dude" who shall remain nameless. :) :D I mean, look how quickly he levels out and gets his shoulders down to clear the defender. Amazing.

I hope Lebron James do some fancy dunk in the all star game, now that both Vince Carter and Tracy Mcgrady will be watching the all star game from the sideline.

Sir Charles, That is what you called as a Levitation.

Never got the huge deal about this dunk, when it's pretty obvious there's a huge angle distortion due to the camera. Back then I had even seen people argue that he was chest level with the rim and other fantasies. Take any good dunker and show his dunk from that camera perspective and you'll make it seem like he's really flying.

Again, huge camera distortion. Watch the normal play. He steps outside the paint and at his apex, he was still a few feet away from the basket. This + deceiving angle = great optical effect.

Why would that be a big deal? Doesn't Joe Alexander hit his head on the rim to warm up?

YAH trick YAH
01-25-2009, 10:57 PM
He did in the Jazz game last night off an alley oop. He had to duck his head and hurt his elbow on the play because he hit it on the backboard trying to duck under.

andgar923
01-26-2009, 12:05 AM
Btw..... James White shouldn't be mentioned in any NBA related threads.

Because the dude isn't in the league and the dude works out almost exclusively to gain more vert.

If Bron concentrated exclusively on his vert, he'd be looking down at the rim on his jumpers.
