Bill wouldnt sign a picture for his own teammates. He has an issue with impersonal things like pictures and autographs. He didnt even attend his own jersey retirement. Not the first one at least.

Rejection... Man, Bill Russel is still playing great defense! Look at the form... look at the grace... look at the athleticism... After he rejected you, he probably walked away with a swagger, didn't he.

In all seriousness, people ask for pictures all the time. Players often get exasperated and aren't as kind as you'd expect them to be. Try to understand it from his point of view.

Tommy Heinsohn said in an NBA show fom the 80's, all the Celtics thought he was a dick when it came to fans and autographs, especially Cousy.

in his own writings, russ said that he would rather shake a guys hand and chat with him a bit -- this would have some personal meaning

(and in this example, take a picture)

he always said that autographs mean nothing on a personal level and that is why he refused to sing them over the years

how prophetic he was in that today, there are people who ask for autographs just to sell to others for their own financial gain...

Russell's Boston Celtics were in Lexington, Ky., when he went to eat and was told the team hotel restaurant did not serve Blacks. Russell went to his room and booked a flight home, and a few teammates followed.

Last year, the president of Prairie View A&M University said he was a junior high student in Lexington at the time.

"You have no idea what impact you had on my life," he told Russell. "That was the first time the community realized everybody wasn't going to let you treat them how you want. It changed the whole atmosphere."

i saw him at the celtics first game a few years ago, and he wouldnt sign anything, for anybody..

in manchester, NH the celtics had a preseason game against indiana one year like 4 years ago, and me and my dad went to it.. and larry bird sat in like the 5 row with a security guard or policeman, and he was signing things, but not for everybody, but definitly the people who asked politely and said hello..

he came off as a nice guy to me, and signed my hat..

bill doesnt like signing anything..

I feel for you , however , just think of the thousands of fans that would come up to every athlete .... that said - it gets old for them as well.
The Big O is another tough sell , when it comes to autogragh's and watching a game.
