View Full Version : Lebron is the best player of the 2020's so far

Well, besides Jokic of course. It's hilarious seeing the Kobe stans try to claim that Lebron's Lakers tenure has been a "disappointment", yet he has done as good as anybody during his tenure. Keep in mind, we are talking about old Lebron here. Lebron has been out of his prime since the Solomon Hill injury in 2021.Let's see a breakdown of the 2020's.

Lebron: 1 ring/FMVP, two WCF appearances, 5x ALL-NBA, 1 assist champ

Jokic: 1 ring/FMVP, two WCF appearances, 5x ALL-NBA, 3 MVPs

Giannis: 1 ring/FMVP, one ECF appearance, 5x ALL-NBA

Curry:1 ring/FMVP, one WCF appearance, 3x ALL-NBA, 1 scoring champ

Honorable mention to Luka. Can't put EmFraud on here by the way.

It's crazy how KD & Kawhi aren't even choices for the top 5 of this, I doubt anyone would have believed that back in 2019.

You have to count Giannis's 2020 MVP and DPoY, too, not to mention his All-Defensive Team selections. With probably the best Finals performance of the '20s so far to boot, I don't see how he isn't one of the two greatest players of the decade alongside Jokic at this point in time.

Jayson Tatum has almost as many AllNBA teams and three of his are over James. Also has a ring. And 4 conference Finals. I would point out the flaws with this system but it gives an argument for Tatum being #1 so I'm all for it.

A FMVP is needed, so that is why I left Tatum off. He can be an honorable mention with Luka.

Ah I meant to include Giannis' MVP.

I don't include defensive awards because, let's be real, they are totally based on reputation/narratives. They are basically meaningless. But Giannis definitely has an argument for number 2 of the decade.

Cedric Maxwell once won finals MVP over Larry Bird. How important is that when people talk about Bird? Whatever though it's your rubric do what you want.

The point is that OLD/Non-PRIME Lebron's resume is still amongst the best over the last 5 seasons.

Youre forgetting his IST MVP.

IMO that secures him at the top and makes it not even close.

1. Jokic
2. Giannis
3. Luka
4. Embiid
5. LeBron

Embiid hasn't done ANYTHING noteworthy in the playoffs. Playoff success is heavily weighted in determining best players and Embiid's level of play massively decreases in the postseason. Embiid is on pace to be the biggest choker of all time out of any player who has ever won an MVP. Also Lebron/Curry > Luka so far when factoring in accomplishments.

Old Lebron playoffs (2020-2024)

25.9 PER, 61.5 TS%, .204 WS/48, 9.4 BPM, 1 ring, 1 FMVP

Prime Embiid playoffs (2020-2024).

23 PER, 59.6 TS%, .148 WS/48, 4.3 BPM, hasn't made it past 2nd round.

Not even close. He’s been 3rd team All-NBA the majority of the decade, and has either outright missed the playoffs completely or been eliminated in the first round 4 out of the 5 seasons this decade so far.

All the guys you mentioned had normal casts of 1 franchise player, while Lebron obtained better casts by getting a 2nd franchise player in AD, who led in scoring for their title run, so Lebron was 2nd option, while curry/giannis/jokic were 1st option and led their team in scoring

So Lebron is always stacking the deck but still has the highest losing frequency

But Jordan had the league rigging awards for him by distorting his home stock stats by a historic margin.

I think the best way to look at this would be: If right now you could have a 5 year rental of ANY player from the start of 2020, who would it be?
I'm pretty sure Jokic and Giannis both come up before Bron.

Lebron's blocks were juiced 110% at home in 2004, while his assists were juiced 50% in 2008, while his steals were juiced 67% in 2021... Both Lebron and AD's steals were by 62% and 55%, respectively, in 2022.

Of course Jaren jackson was incredibly juiced in 2023...

These are all one-offs, just like 88' Jordan, or 90' Hakeem, or 86' Robertson

It's a bs article that you fell for... Sometimes guys have stuff going on and they play different on the home/road but it's a one-off for that sesaon... Of course previous eras did have some normal inflation due to poor road records compared to today's teams and their cushy road trips/vacations.

2020 Regular Season

Davis............. 26.1 ppg
Lebron........... 25.3 ppg

2020 Playoffs

Davis............. 27.7 ppg
Lebron........... 27.6 ppg

^^^ Lebron was 2nd option and was carried against the real competition in the playoffs (Jokic).

Since AD transformed a lottery team to ahampion, while being 1st option and statistical leader of the team, he's been better than Lebron in the 2020's.. He's carried the Lakers since he arrived in 2020.

Curry, Giannis, and Jokic were clear-cut 1st options that often carried the scoring load for their team, while Lebron was usually 2nd option to AD on that title run and that season.

So no, Lebron is just misperceived and misreported by the media as a 1st option when he hasn't been a clear-cut 1st option for a while now and AD has been leading the way ever since he arrived.. You Bron fans and media have literally be drugged or something.

LeBron has literally led the Lakers in scoring by a clear margin for 4 straight years, it's wild how little you know about what you're talking about :lol And he's done this being 8 years older and in his mid-late 30's.

Thank god you can cling for dear life to AD leading LeBron by literally 2 whole points in that 2020 title run, that eased the pain of him doubling up Kobe in FMVP's.

Seriously, it's always so easy slapping Kobe stans with doses of reality when it comes to Lebron. They still HATE that Lebron won a ring/FMVP on the Lakers just a few months after Kobe's tragic death. It's literally one of the most legendary things ever done in sports. Kobe's on the court rival but off-court friend literally won his beloved franchise a ring right after his accident.

Quick review of the 2020's below (FMVP MANDATORY).

OLD ass Lebron: 1 ring/FMVP, two WCF appearances, 5x ALL-NBA

Peak Jokic: 1 ring/FMVP, two WCF appearances, 5x ALL-NBA,

Peak Giannis: 1 ring/FMVP, one ECF appearance, 5x ALL-NBA

Prime Curry: 1 ring/FMVP, one WCF appearance, 3x ALL-NBA

Prime Jaylen Brown: 1 ring/FMVP, four ECF appearances, 1x ALL-NBA

It shows that OLD Lebron has indeed not been a disappointment, and the Lakers certainly haven't either this decade. The Kobe stans (fake Lakers fans) desperately want Lebron gone and it's just funny to see them act like Lebron's ruined the franchise when in fact he REVIVED it.

anyone else like Luka, Giannis, Jokic, Embiid, SGA, more - would win multiple titles with this Laker roster.

Only Lebron's need to show that he can still get his stats has slowed this team down from it's full potential.

He expends the team's offense to get his stats and Ric Bucher was right - he needs to hunt mismatches and play bully-ball to score - that's extremely cumbersome and shuts everyone else out.. Cowherd agreed.
