Im not sure who the voters are for that. If there’s a list somewhere, I’ll find it later. I’d like to hear the person who had Sabonis top three explain it.

Crazy to imagine just how many DPOTY awards a healthy Wemby could get….minimum 8-peat.

No question it’s a media vote. A NorCal media vote most likely.

I really don't wanna hear about Wembanyama deserving DPOY because of height and blocks. There's so many subtleties to NBA defense Gobert would almost certainly have over him in impacting a game.

Serge ibaka blocked as many shots as Wemby(per 100) just did in his 2011-12 season, and he was notably better at NBA defense in later years like 2013 and 2014.

They have stats that track impact now, like EPM and Wemby beats Rudy in defensive EPM :yaohappy:

Just watch him play too, he does stuff Rudy isn't even physically capable of.

The actual blocks aren’t it. It’s the intimidation. Which is probably why the players voted him the best defender in the league.

If people actually challenged Wemby he would legitimately average 5-6 BPG, which is insane in today's era. He is likely the best shot blocker of all time already.

If that's true fair enough. But I have to assume Gobert has been shit compared to his Utah best then.

Manute bol is the best I’ve seen but he was born for it. Not the best defender of course but you just couldn’t get a shot off around him. Not consistently. And not enough people would shoot outside to make it irrelevant. Of the normal people? Zo is up there talent and approach wise. Theo Ratliff had crazy numbers, but he would just go after everything regardless. Didn’t care if if he fouled. Didn’t care if he was being baited. He was a jumping jack.

Overall I might have to say Drob and calmed down mid career Hakeem once he stopped doing the Theo Ratliff thing. And Mutombo up there as well. The Georgetown guys kinda demanded you challenge them. It was a tactic.

They wanted you to go at them and fail. The knew you would come to them.

Moving around? Coming to get you? So the total package?

Hakeem might be the guy.

Wemby has a lot of the Bol aspect build wise but less freakish. He has to guard shooters though. Tougher job than waiting for an idiot to come to your ten foot wingspan.

Victor is a freak of nature. Only Ralph Sampson can compare.

Ralph rookie season, 21, 2.4 block, 11.1 reb, .9 steal

Wemby is blocking shots at a rate similar to Manute. Hakem never came close.

Kblaze8855

I want exactly talking the numbers. I’d imagine Mark Eaton had a ridiculous rate at times. But guys like him and Manute were trying to block everything. It’s similar to, but not quite like shot attempts. Some people will block more shots off trying to block everything like some people will score more because they shoot so much more.

There are different approaches, depending on your scheme And approach. Some of these guys wouldn’t even be put on good scorers so they can ignore their man and rotate to try to block everything. Id say Hakeem was more likely to be able to block a shot he went for than a number of people who might block more in total and a higher percentage. Hakeem with the Ratliff or Camby approach would have had a lot more of those 4-5 block a game seasons. Hard thing to support though.

Nah, coach says he was there in spirit so it still counts.

Gobert's fingerprints were all over this masterpiece, Finch suggested.

“Rudy's driven the defensive culture here. I think it's a testament to his impact, his presence and what he's infused into the team of how important defense is and how great it can be when we play it," Finch said.

When you do drop coverage which is what they do a significant amount of time when Roody is involved, that low points allowed per screen has as much to do with the player getting screened getting back into the picture as Rudy. They have elite defensive perimeter players.
