Two juggernauts and likely the two best teams in the pre-merger NBA.

In 1971, the Bucks crushed the Lakers (with West DNP).
In 1972, the Lakers beat the Bucks in a tight series (with Oscar and McGlocklin playing but injured).

Who wins if both are healthy?

Bucks bench has always been deep ,, and with Kareem no way can Wilt stand up on his old legs.

From 70-73, the Lakers made the finals three times and won once. The Knicks made the finals three times and won twice. The Bucks made the finals once and won. The Knicks team in 73 with the additions of Lucas and Monroe was simply better. And honorable mention should go to the 73 Celtics, who might have beaten the Knicks if Hondo hadn’t sprained his ankle.

Kareem and Wilt were used to losing as favorites, its tough to say in this matchup though.

70 Knicks > 73 Knicks and it's not close.
70 Willis Reed >>> 73 Willis Reed.

If we presume no injuries, as this does, there’s not much difference. In reality, you are right but it’s closer than you say,

What about the 1973 Hawks (if Dr. J was able to stay with them. If only they didn't draft Tom Payne in the Sept. 71 Supp. Draft. They would have had their 1972 first-rounder to use on Julius)? They won 46 games without the good Doctor.

It's a pickem. No right or wrong answer, it could go either way. I would favor the Bucks because of young Kareem.
