I’m in Miami but I feel like even if he’s also in Miami(entirely possible) he wouldn’t be sitting in a car in Costcos parking lot. It’s a nice car but it’s not as nice as I assume he would be in. There are always Bentleys and Lamborghinis sitting around down here and “He” was in a BMW which doesn’t feel right.

I carefully went around it with my cart and and noticed someone watching to see if I hit it and just nodded back and they nodded…and it looked exactly like James Harden.

Now….im not saying it was. I’m saying it probably wasn’t. But it brings me to this question….

Is James Harden a significant enough figure in sports you would wait to see if it actually was him?

I did not.

If I thought it were like…Doctor J, Jordan, or Mike Tyson? I…I think I’d have waited a minute to see for sure.

Whats your cutoff?

Is anyone famous enough or legendary enough you’d not only double take but wait say…2 minutes to see if it’s them getting out?

I don’t think there’s an active athlete in sports I’d care enough to wait to see. And I wouldn’t approach any of them anyway. But if I think Jordan is about to get out of a car…yea. I’d sit for a second to see if it’s actually him. I can admit that.

But James Harden(who it probably wasn’t?). Nah. I’m not waiting for James harden.

I've met Mike Tyson.

Big dude, but boring.

Ive been in cities that were hosting the All-Star game and the Super Bowl at the time so I’ve seen a tremendous number of those people but I’d only say I was childishly excited once. That was for Larry Bird. I saw him and Grant Hill once and barely even noticed Grant.

I saw Jordan at a distance too many times when I was in Chicago to geek out over it. Bird excited me though.

Hes one of those who is a lot bigger in person than you expect. He looks almost eye to eye with centers. Maybe he’s one who was actually his listed height and not exaggerated so he’s a true 6’9” and guys who are supposed to be 7 are actually 6’10”.

He doesn’t look small next to bigs in public though. A lot of people like that are a little smaller than you think they would be in person.

I saw a few in public in Atlanta but didnt really react to them. My first day in Atlanta after an interview i went to Lennox Mall and Mark Price was in there talking to someone. People just ignored him.

I saw KG in a gym one day. Thought it was odd that he had a long sleve shirt on. He looked like a strong wind would blow him over.

I saw Deke and his Bentley one day. The driver's seat was so far back it looked like he was sitting in the back seat. You might be able to fit a bag of groceries behind him lol. No way a person would have fit.

I saw Lisa Leslie at a grocery store. I definitely did a double take because i am not used to seeing girls as tall as me.

I played pickup basketball with some of the braves, Smoltz/Avery and a few others. Smoltz looks smaller in person than he does on TV and isn't very strong. Avery was the oppisit. Big, athletic guy. It was funny watching Smotlz walking around afterwards looking for someone to give him $10 to pay the guest fee. :lol

I always wanted to meet Bob uecker .

He has given back to Wisconsin , in many ways.

First thing I'd do shake his hand. Ask him how he is doing.
Then ask him was Eddie Mathews really a turd ??

Mike?

Yes, that makes sense. Didn't seem to want to talk to anyone and his bodyguard Crocodile, made sure it didn't happen.

I think getting super excited by being in the presence of a pro is a little kid thing.

As for who I’ve seen in person in the last ten years, no convos just Waddup and keep it movin:

So many. The pattern is they’re almost always shorter in person. But builds from TV perspective sometimes don’t translate.

For reference, in the Clarks Wally’s I wear almost every day, I’m 6’5-1/4”

Pretty much every Bull you can think of.

Rip Hamilton & McDermott are nowhere near their listed heights.
Neither is Jordan.
Pippen even uglier in person.

Cartwright’s gait in person is hilarious.

Snell is bluer than Namibian labia.

Rose is wider and more muscular than you think. Running back build.

Kyrie much smaller and stubbier limbed in person.

Saw Zaza with an unimpressive eastern euro blonde on Michigan ave, he’s neither very tall nor very big. Much slimmer than assumed relatively speaking.

Shumpert bigger and stronger than you think.

Shawn Marion shoulder width and arm length makes him look much bigger in person.

Only people I get excited to meet anymore are producers I’ve been a fan of since I was little. Met Muggs last month at an event in LA, the nicca is a stoic brick wall in every way imaginable. Strange spooky vibe, like he been betrayed horrifically by someone close in a permanently damaging way. He brought Shavo Odajian, and a few SA’s and Shavo was polar opposite, mad friendly and cool.

Another extremely strange nervous vibe was Bourdain, in a Duane Reade just south of Central Park. Just a few months before he was killed. My girl and her friend thought he was a homeless guy. I gave him heavy props and told him that hella heads in subcultures he likely doesn’t even know well, love him. He had an extremely nervous vulnerable vibe, but that was maybe because Schiff & Hillary & others wanted that nicca dead.

Coolest, most down to earth Celeb ever in person, is Bobbito Garcia. Hands down. Amongst NBA players ? Enes Kanter

The nicest NBA players I’ve ever met were BJ Armstrong, and George Gervin by a mile. Thinking about it all of the celebrities I’ve really met were athletes. Unless you consider somebody like Devin the dude a celebrity. Devin seemed genuinely happy to be recognized and approached. An old friend of mine may have ****ed Lil Kim in her prime but I don’t know if that makes her “nice” as much as approachable.

Dude is a legendary meme. He's like the most famous dude you could say you met and nobody would care. Be like and I got his autograph and dudes would be like o word... haha.

But you never know man. James Harden moves different.

Also I've never met anyone 'famous.' Some literary people, I guess, but it always seemed like even if I did see someone famous I'd not wanna waste their time. My kinda famous dudes are just college bball stars that still hang out. Those are the kinda dudes you can be like yoo!

For real, man, never... not once. Not glimpsed anyone famous except for on a stage. I'm trying to doubt myself on this, but I'm pretty sure. Not counting after a show or w/e either, but like I said I didn't really wanna waste people's time on that. I'm talking about people just being around. Like if I saw fkn Bill Murray or something.

I wouldn't keep staring just to not be rude. They deal with enough of that. But it would make my day though- kind of cool to see someone like that in person, even more surprising if they do normal people things like wait in the car while their servants buy things in Costco for them :D

A friend of mine was a big Patrick Ewing fan. He met him and Ewing was annoyed the whole time, basically grunting in response to his comments and questions. Makes me wary of actually meeting them- if they didn't want randoms around them, it would be as negative an experience as you thought it might be a positive one.

I met Chris Paul in the airport once as a kid on a school trip. We were abroad, and my friend noticed him on a golf cart and called out. He made security stop the cart so he could come talk to us, and seemed as interested in our trip abroad as we were in him. This was summer '09, when he was at his absolute peak imo. Made me a fan for life.
