View Full Version : Why would Jokic be MVP convincingly over Giannis?

It doesn't really make a lot of sense. It's not like Denver has a better record than the Bucks. Giannis is a far better scorer and FAR better defender. All Jokic has is his passing, but he doesn't play a lick of defense. He should be called out for that. Part of me thinks this has nothing to do with basketball. It has to do with something else, if you get my drift.
Also, triple doubles aren't a novelty anymore.

Personally I think the KA24DET engine should be more prominent in the S13 platform since that’s the OEM engine and it uses an iron block. While the SR20DET is no slouch, it has an aluminum block with a lower ceiling for power when compared to the KA24DET engine. Both of these platforms pale in comparison to a 2JZ or LSx swap of course.

Personally I feel like Jokic is being set up to fail and that these MVP's are an albatross that are going to follow him and his career if he never wins a ring.

I think Denver might get bounced in the first round and the media is ready to turn on Jokic the same way they did on Russ and Harden and tried on Dirk.

Yeah agree with this.

It might not be "convincing" but the reality is that Jokic is leading the league in every advanced stat i am aware of and has missed fewer games than Giannis.
Jokic is actually leading the league in TS at 70% while averaging 25 ppg. That is pretty hard to do.

It's hard because of the gap in their production, though Milwaukee's recent run of 16 straight wins is making it a closer race. Giannis would have better numbers if he didn't have to exit two games early with a combined 16 minutes played vs. Chicago & Miami, though even with those games included he's putting up 32/12/5 on 58.2%FG/62.9%TS during this 16-game win streak so he's been making up ground. Bucks are essentially 9 - 5 without Giannis if you include the Chicago & Miami games so that's a tough one to swallow if you're voting for MVP.

Is he? What about defense?

Many advanced stats take defense into account and Jokic is the league leader so his defense isn't that bad.
Just from bbref Jokic leads the league in win shares, win shares per48, BPM and VORP.
Last season they gave up 6.8 ppg fewer per 48 with Jokic on the court.

Jokic hasn't even made the finals.

Perkins pointed out that the only 3 MVP's that finished outside the top 10 in scoring were Nash, Dirk and Jokic this year
I think he was trying to point out an unconscious bias where white guys are valued for their intelligence, while a black guy has to score a ton to be MVP

Nash's playmaking is the main reason why he won MVP & Magic Johnson won 2 MVPs where he didn't finish top 10 in scoring. And have you ever heard of Bill Russell, Wes Unseld, & Walton? Also won MVPs not finishing top 10 in scoring.
This is what happens when you get your info from Perkins. :lol
