Yea, no one has had to carry a heavier burden

Nice anomaly. MJ conditioned his teammates to taking less shots. Oakley went from a 20ppg scorer to a 7. That’s because MJ monopolized the teams potential offense output

MJ always had the green light to score how many points he wanted. I repeat, always.

Agree

He has to sacrifice those shots in order for his teammates feel the offensive flow of the system

And yet he still lead the league in scoring every year

Thank you for pointing out the 1998 finals.
It is the perfect example of how overrated jordon's "carrying" was.
He averaged 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists during those finals, and had 1 rebound and 1 assist in 43 minutes that game. :oldlol:
His first, second and third job was to score. And he didn't even do that efficiently. He shot 15-35 that game and .427 over the course of those finals.
There was never a superstar who had as much luxury to do one specific job as jordon had the luxury to focus on scoring and nothing else.

So let me see if I understand your reasoning, Oakley shooting more while Jordan shoots less is a good thing?

MJ is the best scorer of all time. No one has shown they can keep the insane efficiency MJ had (high TS%, super low turnovers) while shooting that large volume of shots that MJ did. This is why MJ could get away with shooting as much as he did...

Lebron, kd, kobe, curry, etc...didn't play in an era that practicality forced teams to play iso man defense on the perimeter. It's impossible to compare their scoring given the dramatically different rules and schemes teams used to defend these players.

I do laugh at anyone who watches a 80s/90s basketball gm and can't see how simplistic the game was being played on both sides of the ball compared to today's game though.

Yes his scoring load was overrated.
