View Full Version : Stern played that moment well. And in retrospect…GOAT draft night haul?

Those moments are no longer possible. WOJ would spoil them.

The Webber trade and resulting picks were nuts. Orlando got Penny and picks that ended up I believe 10th, 5th, and 5th one of them being used(after moving more) to draft Vince Carter(Dirk was another option). The 10th pick was in 96 when Kobe and Nash were on the board. The 2000 pick was Mike Miller.

Penny and picks that could have been a number of hall of famers in 2 loaded drafts for Webber who they foolishly gave a 15 year contract with a year 2 player option that forced them to trade him to the Bullets when he asked out.

I remember that. I remember thinking that Webber/Shaq will be an odd fit lol.

Stern had to collect himself before reading that. He must have been like :wtf: when he saw that. He almost started to laugh.

Definitely up there, if not the goat draft fleece.

Celtics were somewhat close to pulling this off with Philly and Fultz/Tatum.

I feel like the Magic might have tried to replicate that this year with Houston but failed.

Stern was such a prick but way more entertaining than Silver.

He’s the only commish to ever seem to genuinely enjoy being hated. Some others laugh it off because that’s the only way to play it but he legit fed into it for the fun.
