Most of his 40 pts came during garbage time. He plays FAT and SLOW and gets no one else involved in the game. He is one of the most overrated NBA players I ever seen. Why does he continue to play like he is out of shape with bad feet???

Mavs could never win this series.
Jordan Pool is as good or better than Brunson and then you have Klay, Wiggins, Draymond.
This is like seed 1 vs seed 8 type of deal in reality.
Luka is a glory hunter and statpadder, but that's partly because this series it doesn't matter.

Problem is Dallas has been fine with Luka on the bench.. Obv they need him but its his defense that is the problem , not his offense.. And yea major statpadder but does it matter

Yeah Luka is a brat, a savant child. Indeniable talent, ego still way too big.
Only 23 years old and shouldn't be doing these things. We're talking who here? MJ, Lebron, Magic, Wilt, Kareem, Durant, Shaq, Hakeem?
Something like that?
We're having Luka on trajectory to be a top 10 GOAT already. How high he wants to go is on him.
Could flame out as a better McGrady, but then again McGrady never made it out the first round.

Lmao they should have let phoenix win instead. Their game 2 was a big choke job.

I agree with this
At one point in the series, he had a zero assisted rate!!! (he isn't an assist target..... AT ALL)
So he plays a playground style... Go to any playground in America and the playground king is a Luka-style ball-dominator - it's the simplest and easiest way to play that requires the most help due to weak brand/chemistry

I don't get why there is all this animosity towards Luka. Are these the same people saying the Mavericks were going to sweep the Warriors?

Might be posters' disappointment that the Mavs aren't (result-wise) putting up more resistance to the Warriors. This board seems to have a real dislike for Steph and GS. Mavs' shots just didn't go down tonight, and Luka is amazing - especially for a 23 year old.
Problem is Dallas has been fine with Luka on the bench.. Obv they need him but its his defense that is the problem , not his offense.. And yea major statpadder but does it matter
This sounds similar to what some say about Ja and MEM but that MEM team without Ja is a whole 'nother beast than DAL without Luka.

I think the more accurate description would be:
Luka is a slow, over-dribbling, out of shape, slow the game down every possession so can catch his breath, minimal effort on defense giving up tons of buckets 23yr old foreigner, who is also a really nice dude that his teammates like.
But if he doesn’t get his flabby 252lb a$$ (was over 260 in training camp) back down to 235-240, so that he can actually become good or even great defensively, he’ll never reach anywhere near his full potential (top 10 all time). He’s already a good defensive rebounder and surprisingly gets a lot of steals. A decent post defender against forwards. But his on ball perimeter defense is total trash for the NBA.
He already is one of the 5 most talented offensive players in the league, but his defense is shameful. I don’t care how much his strained calf, or heavy feet, or out of shape body are hurting, if he can score 40, he can play better D, than his glaringly low-effort “devin booker’s ideal summer league defense” that he’s playing IN A MF PLAYOFF SERIES against a dynasty.
Time will tell, how bad he wants to be as great as he can be.
At least he's been to the conference finals.

Luka's career is going exactly how I thought it would...
He was so composed at such a young age, unlike 99.9999% of players that enter the league, that my "concern"(if you even want to call it that) was he was basically who he was going to be by year 2.
Anyone think his game has taken tremendous strides since even his rookie year? Not really right? He's basically the same guy?
He's a very impressive player and top 10 in the league but he does not have the continued upward progression trajectory of your typical NBA star because virtually none of them come into the league that confident, that polished and that sure of how to physically conduct themselves on the court.
Most guys, even the all time greats, are far far far far from polished in terms of an on court basketball maturity standpoint when they first enter the league. He's been composed since day 1.
Luka has been EXTREMELY composed on the court since day 1.
Most guys that are stars that explode upwards learn to start using their brains to dominate the game and they meet an apex while at the end of their athletic prime and beginning of their mental prime.
Problem for Luka is his mental prime is not going to come in year 8 or 10 or something. He's already there.
Anyways, all that aside, the Mavs aren't a championship roster. Just because they beat the biggest choke artists in the West it doesn't mean much. They will have to get a legit second star to have any title hopes.
And GS is the best team in the league so I don't see why anyone would seriously expect the Mavs to win this series or why that would fall on Luka's shoulders if they didn't. False and stupid expectations.

A lot of people are getting Harden vibes from, him with how much he flops and complains while already taking like triple the amount of FTs than anyone else in the series. The ref baiting is getting out of control. On that Wiggins dunk they initially called it an offensive foul and the announcers were clowning Luka for his mid air head snap flop. Thank goodness Kerr challenged it.

next you're going to tell us his assists per game in the playoffs have been identical between Carlisle and Kidd being the head coach and his TOs are just a result from the lack of championship roster.

Nah he's nice wit it bro but his ball dominant style like most is inferior to systems with elite on and off ball movement.

He needs to push the tempo and move off ball more. The Mavs are so obviously better when they do this.
He can still use his iso game to exploit the right mismatches or get big buckets in a pinch. But he needs to let the whole team get into more of a rhythm. I have never seen him ever once move without the ball, nor even set a screen. He just goes over to whoever has the ball and puts his arm up to call for it. When he doesnt have the ball he looks sullen.
Theres nothing he needs to prove anymore in terms of how good he is or being able to win playoff games. Now he needs to take a lil step back and focus on impacting the game while being less ball dominant. Hes smart enough to do it, it just takes an attitude adjustment.

He gets rebounds at the expense of perimeter defense. True stat padding. Just watch the nature of how he gets them. I noticed it a long time ago and thought he would have stopped by now but maybe this is who he is. Luka Westbrook Harden.

How many players in the league would take Reggie Bullock (a “shooter” that went 0-10 yesterday on wide open shots), Kleber (another “shooter” that went 0-5), Powell (who belongs in the G League), Finney-Smith and Brunson (undersized shooting guard in point guard body) to a conference Finals? A better question, what would the Dallas record be for the season and how far do they go in the playoffs if Luka sat out? They were 8-9 without Luka this year. That translates to 38 wins on the year.

One reason he's a brat is that Mavericks fans spoil him. Anything goes wrong, "NOT ENOUGH HELP".
They are usually uncritical of what Doncic needs to do better and obsessively critical over every little thing any other Maverick does or doesn't do.
In misunderstanding the significance of statistics, in not gauging the importance of defense or team ball, and on and on - not trying to offend them - but they way they come across is as the ultimate casuals. All of this justifies and cements Doncic's bad habits in place.

Don't let the facts get in the way of people hating Luka, who's showed up in the POs but is getting compared to Harden, who's the biggest Playoff choker of his era. :kobe:
We all knew he wasn't a 2-way player, but now ISH is acting like his defense is the main reason that they're losing, not the fact that they've been ice cold from 3 for most of the series when they've relied on role players making their wide open shots all Playoffs. Also their lack of size is hurting them again, and it should get addressed in the off-season. I'm not the biggest Toody fan but they'd be a lot harder to beat if they had Rudy in the paint, even for 25-30 mpg.

Nah, you need to go back and rewatch, he is much improved.
He's a MUCH better defender, he was a defensive sieve and even got bullied as a rookie.
He now has a midrange game and a very good postgame, didn't have that either.
As a rookie he had drives and kick and step back 3 and that was pretty much it.
That's also why I have faith in that with proper guidance he will understand he needs to work on catch and shoot and defense.

Luka has plenty of flaws but him playing off ball more wouldn’t win the Mavs this series. They are simply overmatched.
