Within hours of his planned season debut, Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons reported a return of back soreness on Sunday, sources told ESPN, and has been ruled out for Monday's Game 4 against the Boston Celtics.
After approximately 10 days of pain-free ramp up following recovery from a herniated disc, Simmons' admission at the team practice facility was met with surprise and disappointment. On the brink of a sweep to the Celtics, the Nets had hoped Simmons would be in uniform and active with the hope of coach Steve Nash using him in limited minutes, sources said.https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/33799973/brooklyn-nets-list-ben-simmons-game-4-vs-boston-celtics

It's possible... But he's gone 10 days and practices without any pain... Hard for me to imagine.

He doesn’t want to deal with another summer of getting trashed after a playoff exit. He let the world get in his head.
Gotta say, he’s just not a gamer. Not passionate about the sport. I mean **** it he’s got 150 million out of it and it’s just a game, but it’s not a game he cares much about. His ego means much more.
And you have guys like Embidd who has a torn ligament in his thumb and ready to return. Happened to me too, most pain i ever felt.

imagine being vilified for refusing to shoot a layup. then following it up by refusing to play an entire season and playoffs

Simmons’ ego is so fragile and his own self image is so high in esteem that it makes him loser to himself.
Like, if he was just willing to take a minor L. It’s a damn child’s game. That you play at the top .1% level, Ben. You don’t need these super favorable circumstances, and this avoidance of these dummies that are fans reckoning
One thing about when people, especially in groups, when they find out they can bother you with sheer numbers, they’ll abuse it and you. Power corrupts.
No one except Philly and Brooklyn fans REALLY care about this, but everyone’s clowning him cos he makes it so easy, and you can see through him and how fragile he is.
Simmons will have to hit rock bottom to fix this shit, and really look in the mirror and say, “i suck are large parts of this game”, and embrace it like Draymond or Rodman or somebody.

If he has a herniated disc he will probably wake to a sore back every day for the rest of his life. It's not going away

the timing is suspiciously convenient
It is. And your suspicions are PROBABLY correct, but the only one that knows for sure is Ben... and I think he's been dealing with a herniated disc well since before his last playoff series.
In any event, you guys can expect this to become increasingly common in the future among players, as the kids that were born when smartphones were starting to become mass adopted in 2009 are just now turning a mere 13 years old this year. The kids that have had them in their hands since 5 are just now hitting 18.
If you all don't think ceaseless social pressure via electronics devices is changing people, well... ha. That's not to say that everyone that grows up is going to become a mental midget but it is to say that people WILL become progressively softer... indeed, they already have. Such is the nature of life and the benefits of wealth and increasing technology.
I am very curious about the mental makeup of society as a whole and how that it will continue to shape by 2030.

If he really has a herniated disk why didn't Brooklyn just void the trade after his physical?

I have doubts myself but Harden was being extremely difficult as well. The trade was forced on both sides with Harden limiting Brooklyn options.

The problem is, he has lost all credibility and is undeserving of any lenience because of is own doing. His back may very well require medical attention but his childish, unprofessional, petulant approach to the entire season supedcedes everything. He warrants no sympathy and is getting the just desserts that he so greatly deserves.
This guy needs to grow the **** up. Flat out.
