Remember how commonly shit was questioned during Stern's era?

The KD/OKC era was horrendous from about 2012 or so. It peaked in the 2014 playoffs. Never have I seen a team so babied and carried across 2 series'.

You were not able to breathe on KD, who played a much softer, more ref-baiting game than now.

The Kobe Lakers era was dreadful, it peaked in the entire 2013 regular season 2nd half.

People think that was an accident or something. The Lakers were carried through entire games with garbage calls at that time.

People, serious b-ball heads, made arguments like "but what would there to be gained from this?" when thats your last resort at defending the legitemacy of the refereeing, its bad...

It was beyond fishy.

There are bad calls nowadays, but I cant remember the last time I watched a game where I felt the refs had a serious agenda.

Now those Kobe Lakers and KD OKC times though.....

I would honestly not be surprised if in 30-40 years there was some documentary about how Stern/NBA had interests to favor those teams.

2015 lebron collusion with kevin love on the phone securing a trade for Wiggins before rookies could get dealt then signing with cavs

2016 finals draymond suspension for lebron sitting on his head and him telling him not to sit his nuts on him

2016 finals game 6 taking curry out with touch fouls

2018 cavs Pacers round 1

2018 cavs Celtics ECF

2019/20 BLM league wide propaganda

2020 klutch sports collusion/tampering with anthony davis on Pelicans to force a trade to LA. then instead of canceling the season they give away a practice court bubble gum Disney ring and allow durabt/kyrie to skip it for a blm protest

2021 mass injuries from forcing the league to play catch up in revenue condensing games and quick turn around

2022 dropping the new rules only a month into the season after complaints from stars that were getting exposed.

silver has been just as much of a disaster as Mr. "basketball reasons"

2 games were bad in that series and the refs gave one of them to the kings. then gave more calls overall to the kings for the series

the game before the one everyone nitpicks the kings shot 10 more free throws and won by 1

but they went away from that rule system and are calling lame fouls again. stats went way up. after a few months with like 1 guy scoring 50 all of a sudden like 10 guys dropped 50 one month

silver folded like a cheap suit on that one

Silver in his first year as commisioner literally, openly rigged a series to go the distance and make max money. The Warriors had dominated Cleveland all throughout the regular season and in the playoffs up 3-1 with 3 blowout wins and he made a post game change to a call that had the FMVP at that time suspended for a critical home game. Silver has been a snake and a crook since the start. He doesn't even seem like a human. Stern actually seemed like a decent guy.

Correct, Silver has rigged it far worse than Stern, but maybe not as often.

lets be real, when your biggest claim is a suspension, you know its gotten better.

games seemed to be legitimately corrupt in the stern days...

im sure even you can admit that.

there was a fishy smell about many games.

call after call, bullshit...

you knew something was up.

It's honestly kind of impressive how you manage to be wrong about things on such a consistent basis. Silver became the commissioner in 2014.

Don't be petty lol. The underline point of his post was fair. That suspension was as egregious as any so-called fix. As that series waned, the officiating also got worse. Because of that, Curry picked up cheap fouls and sat large stretches.

I don't listen to Stephen A. Smith much, but him calling it a "stimulus package" was dead-on.

silver has been just as much of a disaster as Mr. "basketball reasons"1. Officiating has been better as of earlier this season, with a lot of good no calls, punishing of dishonesty, and crackdown on unnatural movements (which are used to camouflage malicious non-basketball plays). This is a step in the right direction. For sure.

But recent officiating improvements aside:

2. Adam Silver & David Stern are both disgusting disasters, totally unfit to even be considered for league commissioner by any serious basketball mind.

But I can’t yet say Silver is every bit as bad as Stern.

Stern made sure the Kobe-led-Shaqless-Lakers and Durant/Westbrick-OKC squads got carried thru games with bad calls.

Constant gimmicky garbage added to and changed in all-star weekend.
Contracted the dunk contest rules, in ways that made the dunk contest worse each time.

Threatening to revoke Cuban’s ownership privileges if he ever published his private investigation findings of the 2006 Finals.

Tim Donaghy & the rest of them, that Donaghy took the fall for.

Lakers/Kings, LAKERS/KINGS, MF LAKERS VS THE MF KINGS. Kings should be champions. At least once.

Lakers/Blazers, Blazers should have had this title as well.

Forcing Jordan out for over a full season, when all Jordan was doing was betting on himself to win, to help psychologically increase his own competitive drive and willpower in key late game moments, on his way to his first three-peat. If Stern didn’t force Jordan out after the 1993 Finals (which Mike averaged 41ppg on almost 60%FG IIRC), Mike may have had a literal eight-peat, as was prophetically stated by “The Superfans” on SNL in 1991, during Mike’s guest appearance.

All the way back to the frozen envelope for Ewing to the Knicks.

Some of the worst fixes, worst decisions, and most-damaging/unnecessary actions of all time were under Stern.

Op’s post got me considering but this sold me. All very true. Didn’t even mention the CP3 trade veto.

The Knicks lottery rigging to get Ewing. And this is just the shit we know. God only knows the depths of it.

all the rigging to get lebron to the finals and sweep his steroid abuse under the carpet and his collusion/tampering with other teams players has changed the outcome of the nba FAR more than the ewing lottery or the cp3 veto

In years before we would have many shitty complaints during playoff games...

cause refs were trash.

NBA officiating is pretty damn good right now.

Like really good.

Its improved a lot.

The physical game we just had between Boston and Brooklyn would not have been possible 7 years ago.

Refs would have intervened constantly.

Listen sassy,

today we had a game go down to the buzzer and not a single complaint was made.

Thats unheard of.

In fact, no team fanbase has felt hard done by so far.

And it didnt happen last year either.

These are clear improvements in officiating.

There just is far less to argue over nowadays.
