View Full Version : What the bubble actually did to Lakers and LeBron in 2020

1. Took away their momentum - they had beaten the Clippers and the Bucks in convincing fashion just before that first wave of Covid struck and the season was suspended. They had 7 losses in their first 9 games in the bubble, including their worst shooting performance of the entire season in their game 1 loss against the Blazers in the playoffs, when the haters rejoiced and couldn't have been happier for the bubble. During the pre-bubble regular season you would have to go back 23 games to find 7 Lakers losses, as opposed to only 9 games in the bubble.

2. Took away Avery Bradley - The only physically healthy player who refused to play in the bubble because he simply chose not to play. Their biggest rivals - Clippers and Bucks didn't have this problem and had all of their players in the bubble. Bradley had been as good as any Lakers player aside from LeBron and Davis that season, and he just had a great 24 point performance in their win against the Clippers.

3. Ruined LeBron's regular season averages - He averaged 25.7 ppg on .498, 7.9 rpg and 10.6 apg in his 60 games prior to the bubble. He averaged 22.0 ppg on .449, 7.4 rpg and 6.9 apg in the 8 regular season games in the bubble, which managed to sink his normal averages, though still didn't come close to preventing them from being the greatest ever averages for a 35 year old by a significant margin.

Yet the Lakers, led by Finals MVP LeBron James fought through all this and somehow managed to win the championship in the most difficult yet most fair/equal for every team circumstances in NBA history. :applause:

I forgot to add:

4. Took away their 1st seed home court advantages, which they fought for all season. And instead of getting any reward for their 1st seed regular season whatsoever, their reward was to play one of the hottest teams in the bubble (the Blazers) in the first round of the playoffs, and then proceeding not to have any home court advantage for the remainder of the playoffs.

Lakers can kiss their championship dreams goodbye and it isn’t even really all on Lebron he’s been damn good for his age but AD is not AD anymore just a shell of the player he was in New Orleans and it’s really weird because he’s still young, I blame AD’s laziness after winning it in 2020 and his soft demeanor.

Most difficult beating the heat :oldlol:

And lakers weren't the only team effected by the bubble dude.

It doesn't help that Lebron injured AD either. :oldlol:

That 2020 miami team were said to be one of the weakest teams to have made the finals.

Lol at the Lebronies constantly trying to legitimize the Mickey Mouse ring.

Biggest asterisk in the history of the sport.

Old players (bron) or brittle players (AD) benefit the most from the time off before the bubble... A one-time thing.. super-lucky.. how much time off did they get again?

Don't forget the no travel. That benefits old and injury prone players.

That's cool. 4 rings/Finals MVPs on 3 teams/coaches in 2 conferences is more than enough for being GOAT.
Especially when you consider that he was the GOAT since 2016, when he beat a 73-9 team and won the most impressive championship ever.

No, they weren't. In fact they were predicted to win the east by many analysts before Covid/bubble even took place.
The 2020 Clippers were on the other hand said to be one of the greatest offensive and defensive perimeter teams ever when they got Kawhi and Paul George. And they were in the bubble, with all their players (unlike the Lakers) and as healthy as they could be (unlike the Lakers).
The Lakers still won with LeBron as the Finals MVP.

Oh yeah. Thanks for reminding me, Mr. Habitual Self-Owner.

Reason #5 for why the bubble was nothing but a speedbump for the Lakers:

Missed games due to injury in the regular season prior to the bubble:
LeBron: 3
AD: 8

Kawhi: 13
Paul George: 21

The period before the bubble gave the Lakers' biggest rivals and their two injury-plagued stars a much more needed rest. In the end, the Lakers still won with LeBron as the Finals MVP.

Nope, his epic choke jobs disqualify him for GOAT. And that's the overwhelming majority opinion, not just mine. But GOAT is subjective anyway, so if he's your GOAT, it's all good.
