View Full Version : Rings Culture. Anthony Davis won a ring and proceeded to never play hard again.

Trash dump mentality. But it’s the sport, and culture sone reason.

He might be as talented as god, but I never wanna hear he’s actually as good as Hakeem or KG again.

I believe this season he is hustling more than last year.

It happens with some players. The entire Miami Heat roster that won in 2006 (except James Posey) comes to mind. Guys like Jason Williams and Antoine Walker were out of the league a couple of years later. It also happened with some Mavericks players of the 2011 championship.

With LePoint God he was averaging 30 in the playoffs and not without him he's averaging 24 in the regular season. Interesting.

He’s not the same guy he was in 2020 that’s for sure. And he absolutely needs to be now that LeBron’s looking washed.

2020 was one of the least memorable championships ever. Some teams in the bubble wanted to get out because of George Floyd and decided to stay at the last minute. No fans no travel. So many injuries to contenders. Heat's second and third options were rookie Tyler Herro and sophomore Duncan Robinson IN A NBA FINAL. Ridiculous alltime great statlines from borderline allstars. That playoff season was just weird.

In fairness that team had alot of older vets. Kidd was 38, Terry and Peja 34, Marion 33, pretty much well on the back-nine of their careers by then. Dirk himself was 33 and only had a few seasons of star-level play left.

Counted? I didn't say it doesn't count, it does. It was just a very forgettable and silly post season. I never thought about that for 1999 or 2012 lockout years. But go ahead lump everyone in as a Lebron hater. Like seriously was that a good post season, you think?

Anthony Davis this season: 16.7% on threes — worst in NBA history by any player with 2+ attempts per game and 20+ games played. 38.3% on midrange — worst in the NBA by any player with 100+ attempts. 33.1% on jumpshots — worst in the NBA by any player with 150+ attempts.

I remember when he was a good midrange shooter too. He's never been good at 3s, but he's never been THIS bad.

It's sad to see him decline so early for no discernible reason. He was one of my favorite players. Well he'll always have 2020, he was special that year.

He’s legitimately a skinny fat guy.

Doesn’t try on D half the time. Bricklayer on offense.

Insane drop off. He’s managed to fall off more than old injured Harden.

its lebrons leadership style that's toxic to teammates.

his offense ruins their games and his care free buddy buddy banana boat bubble b*tch attitude let's guys try when they want and wait till the very end of games before taking it seriously like how lebron does. it's led to many team breakups and lebron ditching his friends constantly. he knows he corrupts them and they end up useless. it's why he switches teams every 4 years

If the Lakers continue on this trajectory I fully expect him to make a return to Miami to latch onto their success

Jordan's style held players accountable. it was a more consistent way of getting the best out of guys. lebron knows he can't push guys all the time. then they won't be his friends after the game

Jordan’s style without Scottie Pippen never even yielded a .500 record. Let me guess, it’s because his supporting cast wasn’t good enough? Curious given his “style” gets the most out of guys.

More like Pippen’s leadership, playmaking and defense.

For some reason, things went really well in AD's first season with the Lakers. He played at almost DPoY level. And as a generally poor 3-point shooter, he hits a very clutch three in the Finals.

His effort level this season seems to be better than last season, but I still see two problems.

1. For a gifted big man, there's still something awkward about the way he moves. He falls too much, and he gets injured easily. This might be causing him to play "scared", and when you're a DPoY level guy, you need to be aggressive. I mean, he's always been kind of this way, with his lack of desire to play the five, but if it helps your team win, suck it up buttercup.

2. We've all said this about him. Poor shot selection. When you're that good and that big, get in the paint and own the other team. Never mind this modern analytics BS and the importance of 3-point shooting. You're not Steph Curry, so don't try playing like him. The Lakers won the 2020 Championship as one of the poorest shooting 3-point teams. Their signature style was defense and PITP. Stick to what wins.

Is he still flopping? Dude was falling on the ground from soft ass contact constantly in that Suns Lakers series. Shit was embarrassing for a big man tbh. It sure got him them whistles and carried him to 30pts in game 2 though, so what do I know.

Some people just don't have the hunger to keep winning rings, they don't want to be the greatest ever they just want some success and ring then just play this could be Davis mentality because he doesn't look good, he could be injured again but playing through it, James wanted more rings but couldn't get them he's running out of time and Russell just doesn't play smart @ times & can't shoot, Frank might be over his head trying to adjust to different players strength and weaknesses something Pop & Phil are great @ maximizing strengths in their systems and covering up players weaknesses Frank doesn't know the offense to maximize each player running certain sets in his offense using James as a quarterback and posting up Davis using his length and size like Shaq plus using James and Russell as a one two combo setting screens cuts, it's just James ball then Russell ball, then Davis three point line ball, this won't work & it's not working plus their defense is terrible nobodies guarding anybody.

So, is former NBA champion Anthony Davis’ current level worth the ring trade off. Lakers fans, LeBron fans, AD fans, and general NBA fans, can you tell me?

I’ve been taught, constantly, to believe rings matter more than the actual playing of the sport itself on every level. Trying to see if that applies here.

Look at how slow and pathetic former NBA champion Anthony Davis is on defense these days.

Could current Anthony Davis dominate more than 60 year old and future WNBA champion Denise Rodman on defense?
