View Full Version : What makes isiah thomas any worse than dirk nowitzki, anyway?
I just dont get it. Isiah was an assist champion whereas dirk was never an anything champion. He also won more larry obrien trophies and was also a 2x all-star MVP, which Ive heard is highly coveted on this forum
Yet isiah is top 498548574857 while dirk is a world-beater? How does this make any sense? Is it that assists/game and rings with lots of help dont actually mean shit?:confusedshrug:

Isiah didn't even make an All-NBA team the years he won championships, this is who MJ lost to three years in a row.

You smoking some good. Lets compare Greg Kite and Greg Grant.

But he had more apg and more rings with lots of help, so that makes him better, right? Who cares about being a superior #1 option

Nothing really, depends on who you like. Dirk only has 1 more all nba selection and the same amount of finals MVPS.

Isiah told the media that Larry Bird gets overrated because he's white. That was in 1987, the media shunned him after that. Remember, a lot of media guys are white.

He had a 52 TS%, Dirk in the postseason from '06-'11 was at 60 TS%.

Dirk put the ball in the hoop at a much better rate, and better defender and rebounder due to being 7 feet. Not really all that close.

But what about his apg? And his rings with more help? Personally I think being a better scorer is really overrated. That has never won anyone a ring. The real winners are guys like nash & westbrook

Sorry bud, but you need efficiency along with apg to be considered to be on the level of guys like LeBron & Dirk. Try again.

So passing and assisting more, even a lot more, doesnt really matter after all? Damn, thanks for opening my eyes

Read what? You showed that dirk is a wildly better scorer, which clearly trumps isiahs wildly better passing

Was a lot better (Dirk)

You sure? We just discovered that much better passing < much better scoring

I showed that Dirk was wildly more efficient, you need that and apg to be considered better than Dirk.

Efficiency is just a part of scoring buddy. Isiah outassists the guy several times over, a couple ppg isnt enough to make up for that
Wildly better scoring or wildly better passing? Which is better

You can produce lots of points but have crappy efficiency, (See Kobe, Iverson, Westbrook)
Those guys don't belong in the same breath as LeBron, Dirk, & even your boy Dennis Johnson.

Yeah scoring inefficiently is worse than scoring efficiently.
But is better scoring better than better passing? Thats the question

Depends how good of a scorer the natural passer is. LeBron for example is a career 29 ppg player in the postseason on great efficiency, that is all-time great, elite of the elite, and considering he is an all-time great passer as well I'm taking him over anyone.
Hope this helps.

I guess this apg stuff is a little irrelevant, since lebron doesnt even average that many assists in the playoffs and is more of a scorer. But regardless, I read that passing is very important on this forum so I wanted to hear what people think. It seems like much better scoring trumps much better passing:applause:

3× All-NBA Third Team (2001, 2004, 2012)
12 all-nba selections
IT:

2× All-NBA Second Team (1983, 1987)
Plus Dirk is at 31500 all time points while IT is 19000 all time points.

Assists matter. Points matter. Rebounds matter.
All-NBA teams matter.
Magic Johnson:
9× All-NBA First Team (1983–1991)
All-NBA Second Team (1982)

Scoring over assists. Got it, all cleared up
