Crazy being that polished already at that point. Starting late to begin with? You see guys in their 30s who played their whole lives not handle doubles that well. He’s 24 there spinning out of hard traps and finding space before others really lock in.
Thats a sign of a scorers scorer. When the double doesn’t too much matter. That’s guys like Hakeem, Jordan, Kobe, and Bernard King at his peak. These days a double usually means an open shooter and 3s are the key to winning much of the time so fewer hard doubles get attacked(which is entirely reasonable for the record). A lot of the quick catch and attack the double moves are going away because of it....but the people who do have them? Pretty clear advantages. Kyrie and Wade come to mind first in the last 10 years. Kyrie not so much in the old “Go before the other guy is in place” way but more off unbelievable ball control in traffic but...still.
Nice to see.
Embiid I’ve heard takes it seriously. I’m sure someone is working with Zion and Giannis on it. If a few more of these unstoppable one on one forwards and bigs we have now would worry about handling a double many would likely go further in the playoffs. Score on the double or find the open man....that’s when you’re ready to win. Out here working on threes...
Work on being comfortable with the second guy rushing you. Someone else will hit the 3 for you if you maintain composure and stop turning it over or waiting too late to attack and being fully locked up by 2-3 people.....
