I think why it may seem that way is because eith the center position, it has really fell off the past decade or so with the way the game is being played. Dwight Howard will likely be the only active and/or recent player on the center list. And he peaked over a decade ago,

Compared to the other position that will be featured. Those other position are very much current. You have a PF as the back to back MVP. The other most recent back to back MVP is a PG. These other position will have players in the top 5 and 10 of their respective positions (let alone the top 25) which will probably have between 3-5 active players each in the top 25.

Walton, McAdoo, Cowens and Unseld (who surprisingly has only gotten one vote so far) were all MVP's around the same time in the 70s (Wes, in the late 60s.) McAdoo's MVP came with a scoring title and Cowens and Walton's came with championships. Wes came with a championship, tho it was 10 years later.

Between 69-79, there were at least 2 centers in the Top 5 MVP Voting results every year. From 1965-1979 a center won the MVP Awards. 15 straight seasons a center was the most valuable player. The only other non center/big men to win the Awards from it's first season on were Bob Cousy and Oscar Robertson. Bob Pettit won 2 but he doubled as power forward and center.
