Right now it is Malone and it isn't close. Harden has an opportunity to pass him up, but he needs to win a title.

The Mailman was the prototypical power forward for a generation of bigs. Fast, strong, and nearly invulnerable. Willing to knock out poor fools in his way.

The Beard OTOH is a high scoring walking meme who flames out every year in the playoffs. Crafty, extremely skilled, willing to break the game with moneyball dogma, but not play to win.

They both had referee dependent games that didn't really translate well into the playoffs. But on the whole, the Mailman is the greater player.

Let's not act like Karl Malone did not "flame out" during the playoffs every year. There is a detailed thread that shows his regular season to playoff drop off is comically bad. Karl Malone is WELL KNOWN for flaming out in the playoffs. If we compared only playoff stats I bet it gets ulgy but let's just go careers to start:
They are both pretty damn close in all-time rankings and it's hard for me to choose which.

Harden
8x all star
1x MVP
3x Scoring title
1x Assist leader
0x All defensive team
0x Ring (1x Finals)
26th playoff scoring (3,009)

Malone
14x all star
2x MVP
0x Scoring title
0x Assist leader
4x all defensive team
0x Ring (2x Finals)
7th playoff scoring (4,761)

For now it looks like Malone is slightly ahead, but also since he is still playing I think Harden will pass him up. I think Harden still has a slim window to pass him in playoff scoring and win a ring. I think he still has a chance that is slim but a chance nonetheless. So my vote would have to be about banking on his future if I chose Harden.

Malone beat Hakeem/Barkley/Drexler, then Duncan/Robinson and then Shaq/Kobe in the same playoffs.

Yep yep, I agree he is higher, but not by much and Harden has a chance to pass him since Karl shrunk in the playoffs repeatedly.

Except that it literally is very close. Both are playoff chokers so let's not harp on that too much. Onto the facts below

Harden
8x all star
1x MVP
3x Scoring title
1x Assist leader
0x All defensive team
0x Ring (1x Finals)
26th playoff scoring (3,009)

Malone

4x all defensive team
0x Ring (2x Finals)
7th playoff scoring (4,761)

You included all-defensive teams but not All-NBA 1st teams?

The child rapist, obviously. James Harden is just a modern day Alex English. Nobody will even remember him in 10 years except a middle aged Loney with his bottle of Thunderbird. :oldlol:

James Harden is more like Allen Iverson if anything else. I can't really say Karl Malone benefited much from the Jerry Sloan system, since his playing style would work with the SF/PF Hybrid forward.
