O'Neal places an asterisk beside the Spurs' title because the 1999 season was shortened by a lockout. The owners and players did not reach an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement until January of that season.

"I won a championship in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2006, and it was done the right way — the correct way," the four-time NBA champ said. "For example, if we would have won the championship in 1999, I would not have accepted that. It’s not a real season."

Kinda the point I wanted to make...one thing to evaluate it differently in terms of how good it was, competition or ranking runs..or even evaluating disappointing performances.

But for it not to count would mean it wasn't basketball or someone cheated/was given some unfair advantage.

After the '99 season, many experts were calling Duncan the best big man in the NBA. That's the only thing that got Shaq pissed off and motivated enough get up off his fat ass during the offseason and actually work for a change. It's not a coincidence that 2000 was Shaqs best season ever.
