But the 3-point thing was more of a … it wasn’t really [trash talk]. I just walked in and seen all them guys and said, ‘Who is coming in second?’ But I didn’t do it for any reason at all. The one thing about that first 3-point contest, when I went in the locker room, they had them red, white, blue balls, and so I was feeling them. Them things were slicker than hell. I was like, ‘How am I ever going to shoot this thing?’ …

The 3-point line was never a problem. It’s just that back then I never practiced it until we had the 3-point contest. I figured I could pick up a quick $10,000 by shooting a basketball on a Saturday afternoon. Why not spend a half-hour shooting 3s?

He also said he was watching ABA ball over NBA during the 70s.......intredasting

Bird is full of shit, but no doubt he would be better today.

Today's game caters to perimeter play more than any other era. Coupled with cerebral playmaking, Bird would probably have the biggest impact in the league.

Not to mention his elite rebounding and he was a really good team defender as well which is more important now. Hed be on his own tier today

If anything this takes away from Bird's legacy. It shows that a high school track coach could practice shooting for 20 or 30 mins and win an NBA 3 point contest in the 80's

yikes MJ

I hope as time goes on, the legend of Larry Bird the badass continues to grow. He, not Jordan, was the baddest mfer ever in the NBA. (Jordan
