1990 MJ offensive montage: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LOl0GAbtnqA

1991 MJ offensive montage: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vUhPdD381OA

Conclusions

1) 91' MJ was smarter about using his jumpshot and realized he didn't need to crash into the lane and win the physical battle every time

2) 91' MJ knew how to leverage his teammates better and became a more timely scorer, thereby winning with less stats..

3) 91' MJ would've won the ring easily in 90' and maybe even 89'

1991 is undoubtedly MJ's zenith as a basketball player. The player I'm taking over any other if I want to a series. His skills are simply more refined in 1991 than even just a year ago while still remaining an athletic freak (his last year where he could be considered a 'freak'). More importantly, it's Year 2 of the triangle and you can tell he's more invested in making the offense work. He has a better grasp of when and how to get his while still keeping the rest of the team clicking. Bulls were the runaway #1 offense in the league that year. And if there's one skill where I thought MJ could always be a little better/more creative at, it was ball handling. And 1991 is definitely his peak as a dribbler. He was consistently doing things that year that he wasn't in any other season of his.

And to answer OP's question, yeah, 1991>>>1990.

what wheels what's the problem?

he shot 43% from 3 that year, and all these moves you see in these highlights.. he was doing them much much smoother.

One could argue his 'skillset' was as refined as it would ever be( that version of him anyway), but he didn't have quite the same motor which you'd expect of any 33 year old. Still great defensively but had to pick his spots a bit more. Not like 91 MJ who could go all out on both ends for 38 minutes. 91 MJ was like Westbrook's motor in terms of energy but with much more refined skills, IQ and game management.

Re: the comment above about his dribbling, even though MJ came before the modern 'and-1' style it's interesting to see how much he used his body to get the defender off balance while keeping his dribbling under control. No doubt aided by his hand size allowing him to get to wherever he needed to with what I'd term a solid if visually unspectacular handle( by modern standards anyway). His first step and 'fake one way then go the other' shoulder and head shimmies were ridiculously quick. You'd have to go to peak Wade before finding another shooting guard since MJ with that kind of explosion out of the triple threat.

I also hope that the perpetually ignorant regarding the extent of his skillset note how instinctive and intuitive a passer he was, consistently sucking the defense to him before slipping a last-second bullet pass under the rim to one of the bigs for an easy finish.

Jordan was NOT better in 96’ than he was during the first 3-peat. If his skilllset was better, then the difference is him being a 10/10 then and a 9.9/10 before. I guess you could argue the 92’ Jordan was peak because it’s when he more consistently showed a dominant post game and fade-away (although he had those before), but it’s hard to pick any season from 90-93 as the “peak” one because he was so great in all.

Jordan made slight improvements to an already great post-game and fadeaway during the summer of 95’. He was still better in the early 90s as he was more efficient, explosive, better defensively, had better stamina, and was just more dominant overall. He was better at shooting threes from 95-97 because the line was only 22 feet instead of 23’9.

Jordan had enough room to spare and made the proper adjustments so that he was still the best for 3 more seasons despite a slight decline in his game.

show me a game where 96 mj is getting winded.

his stats were lower because his team was better, 96 mj was by far the strongest physical version of mj.

I mean if you wanna take 91 or 90 mj have at it, he's a bit better on defense but 96 mj don't miss jump shots and understands the game at God's level.

Using wins as the barometer for determining what was an individual players best season? Lmao :oldlol:

'03 McGrady won 42 games

'06 Kobe won 45 games

'09 Wade won 43 games

'17 Westbrook won 47 games
