The most talented big man the league has ever seen? He can literally do it all on both ends.

NBA career 40 point games:

Anthony Davis: 30 (466 games)

Charles Barkley: 21 (1073 games)
Dirk Nowitzki: 20 (1522 games)
Tim Duncan: 5 (1392 games)
Kevin Garnett: 4 (1462 games)

Different level of dominance Anthony mutha****in Davis

In the last 2 regular seasons there have been 228 40-point games. 114 per year.

In the 90s there were a total of 502 40 point games. 50.2 per season.

In the 00s there were a total of 675 40 point games. 67.5 per season.

If AD scores 40 point games at a little over twice the rate that Barkley and Malone did then he's on par.

Also....

NBA PLAYOFF career 40 point games:

Dirk Nowitzki: 7 (145 games)
Charles Barkley: 5 (123 games)
Tim Duncan: 4 (225 games)
Karl Malone: 4 (193 games)
Anthony Davis: 1 (13 games)
Kevin Garnett: 0 (143 games)

Also... watch some footage of Dirk and Barkley. See how they elevate the entire offense beyond their own scoring. Chuck could score 10 points and be the most dominant player on the court because his presence allowed Hersey Hawkins to score 30 points on open jump shots. AD doesn't sniff that kind of impact.

Long story short. AD has nothing on Barkley or Dirk as a scorer.

30? That's a nice number. :applause:

Just 47 behind the current leader in 40-point games for active players, James Harden, who has 77. LeBron coming in at 2nd with 64 and Durant 3rd with 55.

:pimp: :pimp: :pimp:

The difference in eras is vast - and it makes stats a terrible way to compare players between them.

I don't expect OP to grasp even basic nuance like this... which, to others, seems obvious.

Oh well.

Dirk, Barkley, Duncan > AD

Barkley 56
Malone 50
Dirk 50
Dirk 48
Barkley 47
AD 47
Dirk 46
Barkley 44
Malone 44
Dirk 44
Barkley 43
Barkley 42
Malone 42
Dirk 42
Dirk 42

(Duncan's highest is 41, KG's highest is 35)

Also, ADs sole 40pt PO game came in an irrelevent game 4 of a round 1 sweep, in which 255 points were scored.

Inflated stats. No impact.

ADs got nothing on the ATG PF scorers.

I hate to be 'that' guy (once again) but we state it for a reason.

Chuck in this era would be devastating.

He had 2-3 people around him at all times, was played by big tough mofos that were allowed to be physical.

In this soft free space era he'd demolish teams.

He had a high fg% amongst a forest full of bigs, today there's a single flower in the paint. People talk about 'bullies' well... Chuck was THE bully.

Duncan's 5 is shocking to me. It doesn't make me think anything less of him as a player, still the greatest PF to ever play the game, but you'd think he'd have at least a couple of more explosion games...even with Pop taking him out once they up by a certain amount.

I know it was never about stats for Timmy, but wow.

He has 4 in the playoffs also.

I think it's interesting that Karl Malone as 44 40-point games in the RS, but only 4 in the PO.

While Dirk and Barkley have 20 and 21 respectively in the RS, and 5 and 7 respectively in the PO.

Dirk and Chuck were half as likely to hit 40 in the RS, but twice as likely in the PO. It shows that they are a tier above Malone when it counts.

TD also... he hardly ever scored 40 in the RS, but did just as often as Malone in the PO.

KG never scored more the 35 in the PO and is not close to the other 4 offensively.

Plsyoff performance is one of the many reasons that when ranking PFs it goes

TD

Chuck
Dirk

KG
Malone

What about Kevin McHale? He was one of the most dominant offensive PFs but he gets overlooked because he had great passers all around him like Bird, DJ, Ainge and Walton etc.

Those guys played in a much lower pace era.

Umm, not Barkley. If anything, it was quicker.

AD can score and be efficient as hell, but he does not have half the impact of Duncan

If he wins 3 titles and a few as the man, this notion completely changes.

Just like it did with Dirk, who apparently was never good enough to lead a team to a title.

Yeah McHale was great. Could have been a superstar in his own right, but chose to play within a system where he was a part but not the focus.

He only had two 40 point games in his career (in back to back games). None in the playoffs, which surprises me.

Thank you for pointing this out. This thread reminded me that Duncan might not be the best or "greatest" (this latter being a word which does not exist) power forward of all time.

Late 80s had similar pace to today. But by to 90s it was slower.

Also Barkley's 76ers routinely had one of the slowest paces in the league.

McHales numbers would be higher had he played in a lesser team. Before he broke his foot he was a total beast.

What I mean is that there might not be a greatest. The rest of the top five is Kevin Garnett, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Dirk Nowitzki.

these numbers couldnt be more outdated

nice fail

The vast majority of players on that list were out of the league when that list was compiled. Current players haven't impacted it that much. I just posted it for historical context. If you have something newer, I'd certainly like to see it.
