2 more rebounds and 2 more assists >> 3 more ppg
LeBron also has the higher FG%, so Jordan

Points per game scoring average was included in the original incarnations of NBA encyclopedias as far as I can tell.

This.
Also there's a dude that's #1 overall in rebounds career and #6 in all time scoring. His name is Wilt. Very, very few has him as the GOAT due to lack of success in the finals (2/6, or 33%).
So none of this talk matters anyway.

When we are talking about absolute elite scorers of all-time, having a gap of 3 ppg over the rest is huge. As impressive as Bolt's gap over his opponents in the 100 meters dash competition. A complete outlier.

For me, I think the scorers who combine a great PPG, great FG%, and the great killer instinct have a leg up on guys who may lack the great FG%, great killer instinct, or both. So for example, MJ, Gervin, Bird, KD, and King are great examples of guys who are/were great in all three facets. Mamba, Nique, AI, T Mac, and Melo are great examples of guys who have great PPG and killer instinct. BUT lack the great FG%. Bron is a great example of somebody who has the great PPG and the great FG%. But his killer instinct scoring (while I think he has it) isn't on the level of the other guys I named.
So when comparing all the great scorers to each other I think those three elements along with scoring skillset can be used as tiebreakers. When u line up all four elements as a package, I think MJ, Bird, and KD are the top three on the perimeter EVER in my opinion! All the guys I named though are epic and dominant scorers in their own right. ALL are a part of the alpha dog club!

What is amazing is that LeBron isn't even a scorer yet he matched MJ in that respect. :pimp:

Lebron isn't a scorer the same way Westbrook isn't a rebounder.

How did he match?
Jordan played 15 total seasons with two in his late 30s/early 40s and played a total of 35 games in two other seasons due to injury and coming back from retirement, so realistically MJ played a total of 13 full seasons and it took Lebron over a 100+ more games to catch up to his total.

Lebron isn't a scorer the same way Westbrook isn't a rebounder.
You know what I mean. If LeBron focused purely on offense while taking the weaker defensive assignments like MJ you don't think he would put up 30+ppg seasons like MJ?

Efficiency + volume which KD has the best combination of making KD the GOAT scorer

Yep KD is the GOAT scorer i wouldn't put Bird up there as he only had a couple of seasons averaging 28+ ppg

When it comes to Bird, u GOTTA realize he played on deep ass teams. And played on the best frontcourt of all time! If Bird was in situation like MJ, Nique, or Bernard King, he wins a couple of scoring titles at some point. And scores 28+PPG in more seasons. Plus Bird in a SENSE was a precursor to KD scoring skillset wise. A 50-40-90 SF (who plays some PF) who had the height advantage on their opponent virtually every night. PLUS had the TOTAL PACKAGE scoring skillset inside the three point line. KD is a couple inches taller, has better handles, and is much more athletic!
When it comes to combining great scoring PPG numbers, great FG%, scoring skillset, and killer instinct as a package, Bird ABSOLUTELY is in the top 3 ever in my opinion! U have guards like Steph who belong. But in terms of TOTAL scoring skillset, he didn't harness the midrange and postups like MJ, KD, and Bird. But I'm fine with KD as the GOAT scorer with the criteria I laid out. Inside the three point line, I think MJ is actually a bit better skill wise than KD. But KD is a much better three point shooter!

The first NBA encyclopedias were a bit lacking in size, so it's difficult to say if they would have included rebounds per game and assists per game had they had the room, but in any event they didn't. But they kept points per game as the only average, in addition to all the totals.

Efficiency + volume which KD has the best combination of making KD the GOAT scorer
MJ has better offensive efficiency than Durant (ortg or PER), while averaging 4-5 more ppg
Durant averages 26-27 like all the great scorers - this was considered garbage for Jordan, who stood alone at 30-34... That's a different class and astounding because there normally aren't big separations at the highest levels in any industry
MJ was so quick at beating his man cleanly and creating separation with minimal steps and dribbles - this required a fluid athleticism that is unmatched in the game's history. Other guys need extra dribbles and steps to generate the necessary momentum
People don't realize that MJ has the record for most jumpshots made in a season (shown in previous post above) - 727 made jumpshots in 1997 - that's 300 more than Lebron's highest volume season (11') at an efg greater than Lebron's career high (13') - so it's otherworldly jumpshooting.. it's also 300 more jumpers made than Curry's highest season (16'), albiet at lower efg than curry's goat levels
In addition to MJ's goat jumpshooting ability, he finished with the most authority at the rim - show me another player that dinks on goat 7 footers with such ease and command (off vertical, etc):
