Back then Pacers were willing to give up PG straight up for the #2 pick
Instead Lakers wasted the pick on Lonzo Bust

Nobody expected Paul George to not only fully recover from his injury but to be even better than he

Nobody expected Paul George to not only fully recover from his injury but to be even better than he’d ever been?
What does that have to do with anything?
The only decision criteria is whether he would be better than what the #2 pick would eventually be
Nobody said he had to be better than he’s ever been for that trade to be worth it

They wanted to generate traffic on ISH for years to come. Under the table agreement with Jeff.

we thought we can keep our core while getting him for free in FA

Because why give up the #2 pick when you could sign him as a FA next year?
If you're saying that he never intended on signing with the Lakers to begin with, then we give up the 2nd pick for a rental.
Either way it would have been a dumb move. We could have signed PG outright and kept everyone if not for Lebron leaving Cleveland.
