Honestly, I never knew this until his HOF speech. When he went hard at MJ with his famous crossover duel as a rookie, I thought he wanted to get after MJ and didn't respect him. But deep inside, he idolized the guy like many others growing up in MJ's era.

You think Kobe didn't go hard at Mj when he played him?

He's just the most honest of all true super competitors. He' honestly feels bad that the clip of him crossing over Jordan gets so much play. He wanted to show his respect.

I didn't know he was good friends with Tyrone Lue. It's like he embarrasses someone, feels bad about it.

i have read somewhere before that Iverson said that the crossover move was not particularly 'successful' because MJ recovered & almost blocked his shot

AI says it's an indication of how great of a defensive player Jordan was.

He got crossed badly, but recovered about as well as you could, taking into account that this was 34 year old MJ. 29 year old MJ very likely gets to the shot in time.

This is pretty common knowledge actually, or at least it is for people that even casually followed Iverson's career.

Dude has always mentioned how bad he felt for "crossing" his idol, and how equally impressive MJ's defensive recovery was.

In his early days as a rookie, Iverson said that his favorite player in the NBA was Latrell Sprewell.
