The salary cap right now for the 16-17 season will be $92 million and the luxury tax amount is at $111 million. The Cavs payroll right now is $108 million and right now they are on the hook for $100+ million next season unless players opt out that can (highest of any team right now going into next season). They won't have enough money to sign a Durant if LeBron leaves because it won't free up enough cap space to sign a free agent not already on the team. They'll only be able to resign LeBron again and eat the luxury tax again.
