Kawhi Leonard was drafted 15th
Jimmy Butler was drafted 30th.
Draymond Green was drafted 35th.
Kobe Bryant was drafted 13th.
^To name a few. You never know. Well, sometimes you know.

Yep they should trade no.1 for our 2x2? And bunch of 30 to 50s
No, but I'm glad the C's have a bunch of low picks. :D If they dont trade them, they have the luxury to take some chances.

You're literally picking the best players out of the group. Might as well compare them to the worst overall picks of Top draft picks.

There's always a chance to hit money on a diamond in the rough but for every Draymond Green or Rajon Rondo there are a dozen Vasilije Micic's.
In the case of second round picks, I would be curious to know what percentage actually ever gets a chance to play in the NBA.

it's the playoff team that gets those picks. generally, they are reluctant on the players developing.
they are good, but the NBA is a lot of minutes. Players who can play that many minutes and still excel, turns out having to go against many player who are filled with physical tools drafted before them.

Hope no one trades with them and they're stuck with all those picks.

You just never really know what you're gonna get out of the lower draft picks. Some of those players work their asses off and become stars, but that isn't very common. At the most, you can hope that those players develop into solid rotation players.

It is all about odds/probability.

Basketball is much easier to scout and draft for than say football. Players pretty much are who they are in high school and college. Now, of course, every once in a while there is an epic failure in scouting and drafting or a diamond in the rough is found in the lower parts of the draft, but the vast majority of star and impact players are taken at the top of the draft.

It is also largely about roster space. You can't have 8 guys you are actively developing at 19 years old because they generally cannot contribute on a meaningful level yet.
And look at the Celtics. They have 12 guys they have under contract for next year. And they have 8 picks this year. Now a lot of those are 2nd rounders so they can draft and stash a bunch of foreign players. But they simply don't have the roster space for all these picks.
