One of two things: 1) remain 7 seed and lose to SAS. 2) drop a game or two, fall to 8th seed and lose to OKC

2014 - Dwight still leaves, Lakers still keep MDA. Lakers win too many games draft Randle, but either miss the PO or scrape 8th seed

2015 - MDA still fired, BS still hired. Lakers still suck but are a bit better, lose 2015 pick to PHX

2016 - Still retires after the season, Lakers win more games

More buckets and efficient in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons. More 40 or even 50 point games. Surrounded by bums so no playoffs unfortunately. Dwight's clowness and cowardice ruined those chances.

Better hypothetical is if Mike didn't retire twice.

1994 - 32 ppg, MVP, Ring, Finals MVP
1995 - 30 ppg, possible MVP, Ring, Finals MVP

1999 - 28 ppg, Ring, Finals MVP
2000 - 27 ppg (dethroned by Lakers)
2001 - 26 ppg

So basically missed out another MVP, 2x scoring titles, 3x all defensive first teams, definitely 2x but possibly 3x more championships putting his total around 8 or 9 rings. And would be by far and away the leagues all time leading scorer. Both in points scored and PPG.

ESPN just did an article on it. All time greats that retired early slewing their accumulated stats. Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, etc.

Dwight still leaves. Lakers continue missing the playoffs the rest of his career.

His accumulated missed field goals number would be insane.

I highly doubt Jordan plays past 1999 if he never retired. Bulls probably stay together in 1999 to go after the Celtics record, but then breakup. Now maybe if Reinsdorf had fired Krause at some point, Pippen gets paid and everyone comes back and they play till the wheels fall off, but not sure they win after 1999. In that scenario though, Phil would never go to LA so who knows. They would've definitely had to retool with another star probably.

Lakers beat the Spurs in the 2013 playoffs. We get a big FA to sign on. He doesn't retire early and gets his 6th ring at some point...

Dwight was probably still going to leave no matter what, so Kobe pretty much just chucks the Lakers to the lottery the next couple of years if he never tears his achilles. (nobody notable is going to want to go play with an old ballhog)

Reinsdorf as a owner / cancer still plagues them to this day. And you're right ... If MJ got to play in '99 like he wanted. Which was ruined by Reinsdorf, Krause and Pippen ... He probably would've been content going out on his own terms. Wouldn't have made a cringe worthy comeback at 39 and 40.

:(

After '98 they needed some more youth and athleticism. But I definitely think even without, given the 8th seed Knicks took the Spurs 7 games, them even the old Bulls could've won that series. I'm very confident in that.
