View Full Version : The Curry efficiency argument is bullshit for 2 reasons

.
1) Curry's PER this season is lower than Jordan's was in various seasons.. This is Curry's first season with a 31+ PER, whereas Jordan has 4 straight seasons of 31+ and a higher career PER.

Also, Curry's ORtg (points-per-possession) is 125, just like Jordan's in 1991.

2) Curry's efficiency is boosted by carrying a smaller load on both sides of the ball: he doesn't play defense and scores a lower proportion of his team's points:

Since Jordan reached the holy grail of basketball (winning championship and FMVP) while carrying a bigger load, who cares about efficiency.

This notion that Curry is on Jordan's level due to true shooting ALONE is ludicrous - if that was the case, then Tyson Chandler, Ibaka, Dell Curry and Reggie Miller would also be on Jordan's level..

Ordan was an average at best defender whose faults were masked by more lenient officiating of defense.

I don't even know how to calculate PER.

How can I rely on a stat that is so arbitrary and blind?

Curry had a GOAT tier season, that's all I know.

Jordan is the GOAT.

Points-per-possession is the only true efficiency stat.. All others are biased in some way).

On offense only..

Basically, a great season means less coming from Curry than it did coming from Jordan, Lebron, Kobe, prime Wade, or anyone else who is still good the 50% of the time they AREN'T on offense.

Of course, Jordan had greater defensive impact AND scored a higher proportion of his team's points - since Jordan reached the holy grail of basketball (winning championship and FMVP) while carrying a bigger load, who cares about efficiency.

PER is great for this generation players who can't play more than 35min a game. D-Wade, Curry alike

I like how it rewards ******* like them for not be able to play more minutes for their teams

True Superstars back then all played 38min+. This gen is a bunch of pusssies

Why does he even need to play defense if he just nailed the all time season record??

What the heck does his efficiency have to do with michael jordan?? Didnt that guy retire over a decade ago??

Curry just had his most efficient season on by far the biggest offensive load he's carried.

No reason to believe that if he was required to shoot more that his efficiency would go down. At least not based on th evidence of his career trajectory.

Curry's efficiency is boosted by carrying a smaller load on both sides of the ball: he doesn't play defense and scores a lower proportion of his team's points.

Since Jordan reached the holy grail of basketball (winning championship and FMVP) while carrying a bigger load, who cares about true shooting.

This notion that Curry = Jordan due to true shooting ALONE is ludicrous - if that was the case, then Tyson Chandler, Ibaka, Dell Curry and Reggie Miller would also be on Jordan's level..

Did reggie miller and company average the same ppg as curry break the 3 point record again beat the goat season record and win back to back mvps (which im sure curry will) and were they the best players on their teams??

Stupid comparison.....

People for some reason forget that turnovers are also apart of efficiency. It's all about maximizing/wasting possessions.

Jordan was excellent at taking care of the basketball, while Curry isn't good at all. That's why Jordan still has the same ORtg as Curry despite shooting nowhere near as well.

Nobodys really denying jordan as the goat. But three ball constantly uses him just for the sake of putting current players down.

only when people try to overrate someone's standing in comparison to the GOAT.

heck, Curry is a BAD PLAYER half the time he's on the court (defense).

So jordan is better at shooting closer to the basket... (because hes bigger can jump higher and dunks alot??)

Have u ever played basketball
U know the further away from the basket the harder it is??

:applause: ... ^^^^ This is exactly true, except Jordan shot far better than Curry inside 20 feet, which helped his efficiency compared to Curry

But you're right - Jordan had FAR less turnovers, which squashes Curry's assist advantage, and leaves him with only ONE category that he leads - true shooting.

Jordan leads in every other category:

Per 100 Possessions

JORDAN 1991 RS: 42.7 pts.. 8.1 reb..4 7.5 ast.. 3.3 tov.. 3.7 stl.. 1.4 blk.. 60.4 ts.. 125 ORtg.. 31.6 PER.. 0.321 WS/48

Jordan had higher PER and equal points-per-possession (ORtg), even though Curry's efficiency is boosted by carrying a smaller load on both sides of the ball: he doesn't play defense and scores a lower proportion of his team's points:

LOL at all this "load" talk.

First...it sounds gay as fukk. One man obsessing over another's load. LOL.

Second...what does load have to do with anything? Any borderline star player, like Jeff Teague for example, could go the Sixers right now and put up a legendary "load".

And then he can go to Warriors and his "load" would be smaller. Obviously he is the same player though in and not any worse. :facepalm
