From ESPN stats (http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/offense-per-game/sort/threePointFieldGoalPct)

3pt FG% 2014/15

Golden State 40% RS -> 37% PO -> -3% Difference
Atlanta 38% RS -> 32% PO -> -6% Difference
Clippers 38% RS -> 33% PO -> -5% Difference
New Orleans 37% RS -> 32% PO -> -5% Difference
Cleveland 37% RS -> 34% PO -> -3% Difference

Teams shooting better than 33%

Regular Season: 26/30 - 87%
Playoffs: 8/16 - 50%

Cliffs: 3 point spamming is a regular season strategy ONLY

Go home and wank autist stat nerds.

Or defenses drastically improve, as teams have more time to prepare for the opposing teams' plays and sets.

Maybe because the postseason weeds out the low quality/ weak defensive teams for the most part. Oh and that sample size bro. 82 vs 28(max possible) games. :coleman:

Yes, but that is exactly the point.

The 3 Point Shot dramatically loses efficiency against elite teams in the playoffs, while the 3 point shot is much more efficient in the regular seasons.

It is no suprise that the regular season hero teams are usually fast paced 3 point shooting teams as first seen by the Nash Suns.

This is pretty clear and damning stats.

The 3 point shot is simply far less effective in the playoffs.

Doesn't field goal % in general, irrespective of where the shot comes from, decrease in the playoffs?

Go look it up, but remember to find 2pt% and not the combined FG%.

Field goal percentages drop, PER's drop...teams play better defense. Sadly don't have historical playoff data, but you'd need to use at least a 2 if not 3 year rolling average and look at the league as a whole to get value significant data. You're just looking at too few games to really get good data here.

You'll also see a change in the mix of shots and shot selection when you move into the playoffs.

Or in short, you don't have enough data to insult stats nerds...or make a case for being right.
