View Full Version : Is this the best the league has been since the '80s/'90s?

This is probably the best talent playing in the league together at the same time since the '80s/'90s. Back in the '80s/'90s you had Jordan, Bird, Magic, Drexler, Stockton, Malone, Barkley, Robinson, Wilkins, Ewing, Hakeem, Isiah Thomas all playing in the league together at the same time.

Then you went through the 2000's. Don't get me wrong there was talent there. But not as much talent as compared to back then or compared to right now. Right now you have LeBron, Carmelo Anthony, Wade, Bosh, Love, Irving, Howard, Curry, Rose, Westbrook, Durant, Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, Tim Duncan, Kobe, Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose (when healthy), LaMarcus Aldridge, John Wall, Dirk Nowitzki, James Harden, Chris Paul.

You have Steph Curry going off for 53 points tonight. You had Durant and Westbrook going off for 40+ points each, you had Karl-Anthony Towns going off for 28/14. This is crazy.

Not only is the talent good. But there are so many great teams right now you finally have real competition. In the 2000's you knew either the Lakers or the Spurs were going to win. Or at least some team from the western conference. The east was terrible. I mean the west is still the better conference but the west is even better now than it was in the 2000's. And the east is way more improved than in the 2000's. You have so many different teams that can win the championship. This is like the '80s/'90s when you had the Pistons, Lakers, Celtics, Suns, Bulls, Jazz, Rockets, Knicks. Just so many teams who could win the championship back then. And now you have the Spurs, Thunder, Rockets, Clippers, Heat, Cavs, Warriors, Grizzlies, Bulls.

Slow your roll, brah.

Every era has its great players/teams. Let's not act like the 2000s was some chump era. Just because "you knew either the Lakers or the Spurs were going to win". Then you go on to cite the 80s (when either Bird's Celtics and Magic's Lakers would win most of the time. How is this ANY different from the Spurs/Lakers of the 2000s?) And what about Jordan's Bulls dominating the entire 90s era, with no other champion except for the Rockets?

BTW, every other team that won a championship in the 2000s besides the Lakers/Spurs was from the East (Pistons, Heat, Celtics)

2000s had: Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, KG, Kidd, Iverson, Dirk, Wade, LeBron, TMac, Vince Carter, Steve Nash, Amare , Chris Webber, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Tony Parker, Pau Gasol, Ginobili, Jermain O'Neal, Carmelo, Rasheed Wallace, Yao Ming, Ben Wallace, Billups, Dwight Howard, Wizard's Jordan, Chris Paul, Chris Bosh, Ron Artest.

Teams that won championships or were contenders during the 2000s: Lakers, Spurs, Pistons, Suns, Kings, Mavs, Blazers, Celtics, Heat, Rockets.

The problem is that the 2000's couldn't beat Euroleague - they lost 7 times in international play from 2002-2006 using all the bolded players above.. They even lost to Carlos Arroyo's Puerto Rico by 20...

The 2000's era didn't know how to play basketball - their brand of basketball was so far inferior, that it more than offset their massive talent advantage.. :confusedshrug:

So you're going to pretend like they sent all the best players available at that time to those competitions?

The exclusion of Kobe and Shaq alone is enough to bring your argument into question.

Right, the exclusion of Shaq and Kobe made the US talent less than international... get your head out of your ass...

the US lost with a MASSIVE talent advantage... obviously, despite the talent, they didn't know how to play basketball.

2014-2015 was a bit of a down season due to injuries, older greats declining, and young greats not yet being ready.

But the overall talent in the NBA is as good as always, so it's bound to bounce back. Just having a healthy Durant for the season would already make a lot of difference.

For the first time in several years I enjoy watching regular season basketball again, so that agrees with you.

There's still some really, really bad basketball being played too much and a bunch of teams which have zero interest such as new Portland, Philly, Celtics, Denver, Lakers (which would be unwatchable without Kobe).

There's more teams I enjoy watching such as Spurs, OKC, Chicago, Cavs, Clippers. Even lesser teams like Charlotte, Memphis and Wizards are decent enough.

All in all pretty good:cheers: I just wish the refs would stop whistlng every other second.

It's funny, I was thinking the same thing. It's not easy to compare eras but the league seems stacked right now.
