MGS1: 94
MGS2: 96
MGS3: 91
MGS4: 94
MGS5: 95

Halo 1: 97
Halo 2: 95
Halo 3: 94
Halo Reach: 91
Halo 4: 87

Critically, very comparable. I have chosen to exclude MGS5 GZ. MGS critically has been a little more consistent, but the difference in genre needs to be taken into account. The FPS genre has been destroyed by Call of Duty oversaturating the genre with poor work just getting by on brand name. Yearly releases. This has hurt FPS genre massively. Whereas the stealth, open large world genres do not nearly have as much saturation. It's hard to find high scoring FPS now days, simply because of there being so many bland ones released. The diamond in the rough is Halo, and it has usually 3 years for game development.

Also, Halo 4 was actually stable at 91 but then 343 released a statement saying anything in the 90's was a success, and it caused a backlash which dropped it to 87

Also, Halo 2 was actually incomplete. Had it not been rushed, it would have been a clear 97-98, as most of the gripes were story related.

MGS games are simply better games than Halo games. Just stop.

Halo online play can be entertaining with friends though. Take solace in that.

How?

There is no doubt FPS is the hardest genre to get right

Definitely one of the best series

Only thing I have against them are they are, the genre itself, founded upon quantity of content over quality

The genre as a whole is often slightly overrated

I'd have to disagree. GTA4's story is considered to be an all-time great, and every GTA game is pretty much stand-alone storywise. quantity and quality are not exclusive. The GTA games have both IMO

Of course, it is the best of the specific genre. I was just making a comment about the genre itself

Halo is the best of the FPS genre, and due to the genre itself, it does get marked down unfairly compared to the others genres. COD is mainly to blame for this, with releasing yearly titles that sell off of brand name and not quality. COD was quality at first but now it has completely lost it and gone straight for the money. MW1 and MW2 are both great FPS, but mainly everything after that has been a serious detriment to the genre

Ocarina of Time, 99.

I'll take Doom > Halo too.

MW1 and MW2 were actually great games. But you're right. Completely multiplayer driven games

"Oh shit" moments in FPS games for me:

1. All of Half-Life 2; still my favorite FPS of all-time. I felt like in every room, in every building and around every street corner was something that was going to be pants-shittingly scary that I'd have to kill. Rarely was I disappointed.

2. MW2's airport scene

3. MW1's launch facility mission + the truck chase mission. Talk about intense.

4. The Flood from Halo CE
