Europe's biggest basketball magazine, Gigantes del Basket (like Europe's equivalent of Slam Magazine basically), is releasing 3 special editions to commemorate 30 years.

They are supposed to be naming the 500 biggest basketball "giants" (players plus coaches - men and women) of the last 30 years, plus the top 30 of the 30 biggest "giants", from the magazine covers.

The criteria for this is based on what has happened with coaches and players from Spanish ACB League (women's league also), the NBA (WNBA), and the FIBA EuroBasket (the European championship tournament for national teams) (also women's EuroBasket) in the last 30 years.

Here is the magazine's website:

In September, is the FIBA EuroBasket special.

In October, is the Spanish ACB League special.

In November, is the NBA special.

Some info about it from the magazine's website.

You should be able to supposedly see the 30 biggest "giants" from among the ones in the magazine cover. Here is the pic just with the names.

(The magazine publisher said that the early photo has an error and that Hakeem Olajuwon is supposed to be in it, and will be added.)

Jeff's ISH blog has more authority than this magazine.

I see the 30 years now which explains the absence of some guys. Galis still seems odd.

What's the format? With a feature on each player? That'd be pretty legit actually.

this is a pretty good read actually (the magazine itself), they're popular enough to have public but avoid mainstream as much as to actually have good insight and interesting articles with little bandwagoning.

This 30 year thing is most likely a marketing move anyway, I doubt they will do any proper rankings (how can you across different eras and across different competitions?) but I guess they will do some nice features on many players.

Don't see how this is thread worthy here, I guess if anyone reads spanish they can take a look at the mag because it's pretty good, but beyond that...

edit: Spanoulis will barely get a small paragraph somewhere

I'd just post a pic of George Papagiannis with the caption "the future of the NBA" on the cover and call it a day.

Euroleague play wasn't something they were using as a basic consideration genius. It was Spanish League, NBA, and FIBA EuroBasket.

And also, there are several players there that never played in the NBA. So what you are claiming isn't true.
