Not a big surprise. People were saying Okafors stock was dropping a bit. I'd take Russell over Okafor

It makes sense if they get DMC or KL or LMA...although I don't like Cousins and don't think he will play well with the others...

but I would have liked to see JO , I think he would have fit well and prolly be a allstar in a few years..

If Mitch and company think he's the better pick, then you go with it. They have a track record for picking the right player. Okafor whoooooo

Your such a bitch.

How you not know about dude till now?

Your such a bandwagon, know only what 14 year old girls know about sports.

Lots of people had him goin to the lakers.

Such a fool.

Figures, someone from Texas, bandwagons on a northern Cali football team and bandwagons on a southern Cali bball team wouldn't know shit about a top prospect and still typed didn't like him until AFTER the team he roots for drafts because he watched a "highlight video"

D'angelo might not turn out to be a superstar, hell, he might not even be an all-star, but the fact we're building through the draft and acquiring SOLID talent for what looks to be a bright future...is a special thing.

LA is buzzing right now, and I'm pumped

Saw on r/NBA that Lakers have summer league commitments with Upshaw & Brandon Ashley. Mitch having a pretty great day. I doubt Ashley makes the team, but Upshaw definitely could. Major offcourt baggage but you never know how he works out.

No.

I hangout on the Lakers message board besides here and we pretty much had our sights set on drafting Okafor. So it came as a shock since none of us really scouted other players.

If I knew beforehand that we had another choice and after watching his highlights and scouting, it would be a no-brainer to pick him.

It's a weird situation...I mean, on one hand, Russell would've been PERFECT in Philly and they have to be kicking themselves for missing out...but then again, they got a guy who could be the best guy in the draft. Idk what else could they have done lol. Clear dropoff after Okafor unless you're sipping the Porzingis kool aid, you gotta go BPA. It's going to be suuuper interesting to see how Embiid shows up this season, if he does..

But tbh I think Russell is going to be the best player of this draft though. His mentality, his IQ, feel for the game, ridiculous court vision, touch on his shot, creativity, competitiveness, everything screams superstar to me. I saw that report as well, but honestly I think the Lakers guys just really liked Russ as well. I remember reading somewhere that pretty much everyone with the Lakers wanted Russell right before the pick, Mitch might've been the only guy who was leaning towards Okafor.

Lakers feel clarckson is a combo guard but russel is probably is a pure point who can run a team. A backcourt of russel and clarcksn will actually be nice

Lol. I got banned from Lakerball for "attacking" therealdeal. But I check out that site once in a while and did see that most guys had this narrow minded thinking of going for Okafor with only a few open to the idea of Russell. That's what happens when you get into a group and you start getting a narrow minded viewpoint of situations. Have to be able to think on your own.

I'm extremely disappointed that the Lakers picked Russell over Okafor because we need size at the 5 right now, but I see the front office's logic behind it. There are plenty of big men on the market right now to choose from.

If we can snag a defensive center like DJ, I'd be pretty happy. With Marc Gasol I'd be happier, but it's quite unlikely to get him :(. Worst case scenario we don't get a center at all, which may force us to pay Ed Davis 7m/year... We're not going anywhere with Davis as our starting center.

It's much more about the future at this point. We're looking past the Kobe era, so we can work with Russell (PG) and Clarkson (SG) in the future. But this upcoming season, I'm kind of worried that Kobe will have to play SF because he's a little too small for that. Who's going to guard the likes of LeBron, Durant, Paul George, or even Jimmy Butler for that matter?

In the end, I still think Clarkson/Randle/Okafor > Russell/Clarkson/Randle (double combo guards :\), but I may be wrong about Russell. We'll see how he grows in this league.

Strongly dislike the pick. If we can land Boogie LMA or Love I guess it will be all right. If not then this pick is pretty bad.

I suppose this makes Clarkson expendable in any trades so maybe Clarkson and Randle for Boogie. I would be okay with that.

Russell/Clarkson/Randle is getting you nowhere.

:kobe:

Breh, Lakers have even more cap space next year when Kobe's deal comes off the books and we have 23 mil right now to spend on either one max guy or two all-star caliber players

Lakers are not trading Randle because Randle hasn't had the chance to showcase his game enough and reportedly his shot has improved a whole lot and he lost 20 pounds, look at him become a taller Draymond Green.

Clarkson and Russell can both play PG/SG, so that's not a problem. Kobe could play at SF. I mean, Warriors won a title with Draymond Green being their tallest player on the court for half the Finals.... You don't really need a 7-foot Center and a 6-10 PF anymore, especially in the Western Conference, where teams play at a high pace and guys have to be able to get back on transition. Lakers struggled big time with this in the recent years with Pau, Hill, Davis not being able to play huge minutes because they couldn't keep up with a team like GS or LAC, who routinely blew us out.

Also, don't sleep on Larry Nance jr and Upshaw, those guys could end up being solid rotation players as well.

Lakers finally stuck to their players and aren't looking to trade away all their young talent for a "quick fix". They understand that Kobe can't be counted on to carry a team due to injuries and that one star player is not enough to win anything in the West. Cousins is a great talent but he alone isn't going to win anything.
