It seems he's having health issues now. I hope he lasts a few more years.

Told my friend this will probably be the last time Russell presents the trophy.

I noticed that too. It appeared that he was also wearing some type of leg brace if memory serves me correctly.

Yeah he had a knee brace and was practically held upright by others. Sad to see

Tried to look away tbh, hate seeing him like that.

He seemed to have more energy at All Star Weekend.

He's black, male, 6-9-ish, played sports his entire life, and was born in the 30s. It's remarkable how fit he is all things considered, imo.

Does being black effect a person's life span? Or do you just mean because he lived through a shit load of racism?

He's old, really tall and played sports in an era of practically prehistoric medical technology. What exactly did you expect? :confusedshrug:

Everyone ages, man.. You will be the same way later in life, so will every person you know.

Remember guys, Mr Russell is 81.

This.

Bit off-topic but as far as all of that, one that really impressed me the most was Jake LaMotta, the boxer... Dude was fighting as a pro in the 40's/50's, had an agressive style that saw him getting popped in the head plenty, only went down like once when he was a shell, took some savage brutal beatings by some extremely hard punchers, still lives today when most if not all of his contemporaries are long gone, and he was still concious and mentally aware - within his "messed up" self - in his late 80's! Don't think he is much at that state anymore though, but still alive at 93 and not totally gaga.

Medical reports cite that Bill Russell needed to be assisted at the podium after feeling woozy from watching Steph Curry bury multiple daggers on the Cavs down the stretch.

Actually he was woozy because Silver told him he had to give the FMVP to Iggy...

:lol

I imagine what was going through Russell's head. "FMVP is award in my name, and they are giving it to... this guy? :facepalm "

Hopefully nothing serious. After all he did have a very high motor on the court and played in Chuck Taylors on rock hard floors.

Sports Illustrated - May 10, 1999

"Once I blocked seven shots in a row. When we finally got the ball, I called timeout and said, 'This **** has got to stop.' " Some years Russell would be so exhausted after the playoffs that, as he describes it, "I'd literally be tired to my bones. I mean, for four, five weeks, my bones would hurt."
