View Full Version : Stephen Curry's case for GOAT

LosBulls

Does Steph Curry have what it takes to be called the greatest?

He's already the greatest shooter of all time, so what does he need to accomplish in order to become THE greatest?

Does he have the potential? I think so.

This guy is the complete package at point guard.
He has amazing dribbles, amazing court vision, hes a floor general, he can defend, he's a smart player, he can finish at the rim.
That's without bringing in to consideration that he has the deadliest jumpshot in the history of the sport.

A lot of people don't realize that when teams play the Warriors the plan is to guard Curry from half court.
Team's have it in their gameplan to stop this guy from shooting 3s, and he still goes out and drains them.

He's like a machine.
Team's these days like to play a zone defense and this guy just destroys every defense he comes up against with his 3 point shot.

If you sag off him he will punish you for 3 points, and if you get too close he will blow past you and create something for himself or his teammates.

This guy is one of a kind.

When somebody asks "Who are the greatest shooters ever?", 2 names come up.

Reggie Miller and Ray Allen.
Both great players, but we can all agree that these guys in their primes aren't touching Steph Curry.

What boggles me is that Steph Curry is not only a better shooter than they are which is amazing in itself, but at the same time he has all these other skills that they lacked.

Reggie Miller and Ray Allen couldn't be the floor generals of their team, even in their prime.
They were scorers.

Then you start thinking a bit more, well, who's the best point guard shooter ever?
Steve Nash.

At this point in Stephen Curry's career we can say that he is the better player.
He is a better shooter, a better dribbler, and a better defender.

So who's left?
Larry Bird.

I'm not going to get in to that.
All i'm going to say is that Larry Bird is in most people's top 10 lists and Steph Curry is going to be on his level after this year's championship.

Sit back and watch boys.

Yeah the guy used to be injury prone but everybody knew he was going to be special just from the flashes he showed when he was healthy.
The only reason the Warriors kept Monta Ellis around for so long was because of Steph Curry's ankles but as soon as Steph got healthy they got rid of Ellis.

Yeah, let's suit up Kevin Durant with a harness on his leg, he's still better than Curry.

As for Lebron?

Curry averages 5 more points, in 5 less minutes, on 10% more efficiency these playoffs.

Nuff said.

The only one with a case is Davis and guess what? Curry swept him.

Not that I think Curry is GOAT or anything... but let's be honest, if Curry was 6'6"+, would more people not already be talking about him as GOAT? It's like everyone expects him to fall back down to earth because he's small (and looks like he's 15). If he keeps this level of shooting dominance, why not? Scoring more points than the opponent is the point right?

Long, long way to go though....

He MIGHT get that last spot to round out the top 15. I think it's a toss up between him and Chauncey Billups.

Billups wasn't outplayed by Andre Iguodala so I think Billups has the edge. Curry can only dream of shooting 50-40-90 in the finals. He can have a spot in the top 20 though, I'll throw him a bone and not think about who could knock him out of that range.

Curry is greatest shooter ever he might end up one of top 50 players of all time but he still has long ways to go. No case for GOAT or even top 30 he doesn't have same impact on both sides of floor as past greats.

Simply having won a ring, an MVP and being the best shooter of all time should comfortably take care of the "top 50" thing.

We already know that Curry benefits from the 3-point shot more than any player in the history of the league - this is statistical fact..

But back when there wasn't a 3-point line, he'd be a much worse player.. He'd get the same looks he gets today, except all the three pointers (half his shots) would be long two's instead... Long two's at 44% don't hurt a defense, so he'd be a much worse player..

Short gunners that can't dominate inside end up being World B Free and Maravich-level players in the 70's, and those guys were actually better 2-point shotmakers than Curry.. But they were never considered the best player in the game or anywhere near, whereas Curry is considered that now.. Today's spaced-out, 3-point friendly league is the only era where Curry would be a top player.

Current Curry far surpasses peak Shaquille O'Neal. Come at me.
Long two's at 44% don't hurt a defense nearly as much as 3-pointers at 44%... Therefore, Curry would be a materially worse player without the 3-point line.

Essentially, without the 3-point line, half of Curry's shots go from super high efficiency to the lowest efficiency shot in the game.. :oldlol:

In the 70's, Curry would be short, 2-point gunner, like World B Free, except less strong and less athletic, so he'd be a worse 2-point shotmaker in the more congested and tougher 70's - remember, DRtg was a full 10 points lower back then, because defenses didn't have to guard any 3-point line, so they occupied a smaller surface area and had a higher concentration of defenders in the 2-point areas.

3ball, where the best shooter in the history of the world would be worse shooter due to not having some line on the court. Man, without a 3 point line he'd have even more space to shoot - and he already shoots 45% despite getting double teamed and run off the 3 pt line - that damn thing. Are you dumb?

Tonight is game 2 and should Curry raise his game to his normal elite levels and win this series and take him the finals mvp putting up all time numbers the rest of the way, where would you rank him all time?

His peak is arguably top 4-5 all time. Even if he hasn't had the longevity (he's still got a long ways to go orcourse) his peak alone is almost enough to catapult him with the all timers.

He'd have back to back mvps and titles (the only other player since Jordan to do that was Lebron) and he'd have done it while leading his team to 73 wins and breaking many records in the process.

Is another championship enough to put him in the top 10 already? At the age of 28?
Or does he need a third mvp or another title?

It seems like it's just a matter of time either way. He's you get enough and there's no telling when he'll stop. His game should age well because he's a jumps hooter. He could conceivably win 4-5 titles as lead dog which would make him only the 3rd man I history behind Russell and MJ to do so. He could rattle off another 2 MVPs and make it a staggering 4 straight.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Speaking about just this title - the second of b2b titles in seasons in which he was also the best player and mvp in this league. Is that enough to ALREADY put him past the west's and Kobe's? Or Hakeems?

DirkNowitzki41

hell ****ing no. people need to hop off his dick. even if he dominates the rest of the series and wins FMVP, he isnt anywhere near top 10. Maybe top 30. Maybe.

If he plays at an elite level for more than 2 seasons then we can talk about top 10. Maybe 5 years from now?

Just depends on what you think being the best means. Anyone expecting him to improve as a player? I dont. Granted...id have said the same last year...and he did. So maybe its early to call off the evaluation...ill wait and see. But generally....im thinking he is what hes gonna be.

If you rank it by rings and mvps and all.....I guess he would be top 15ish?

Ive always leaned on the side of "Yea yea yea....accolades and all...but how good is he?" so him winning this isnt gonna do very much to change what I think. But as I said...he is a little young to call off the evaluation. he might **** around and shoot 53% from 3 next year and score 34ppg. Im done putting ceilings on this guy for a while.

top 4-5 all-time peak?

has yet to have a playoff run better than anyone top 20 all-time

will never have a season where he's 1st team all-nba combined with defensive 1st team

Hakeem won MVP and DPOY and FMVP in the same year followed by a championship run as a 6th seed where he destroyed the MVP in the conference Finals averaging 35/13 followed by a Finals sweep averaging 33/12

Even if he wins this year he has 1 fmvp (maybe) 2 MVPs to Lebron 4 mvps and 2 fmvps.

He needs to have at least 4-5 seasons of playing on this level to be considered that good. Steve Nash won b2b MVPs but he isn't even in anyone's top 25, does Curry winning 2 titles while losing the fmvp to a role player make him that much better?

to me none of that matters.

It's just a storyline. A narrative to sell the series. Facts are Curry put up whatever stats he put up, superstar numbers and won a title. It doesnt matter if you get deep all around contributions from the whole team like the warriors provide, or if you have Shaq.. both teams are stacked just as much but in their own separate ways. FMVP is a glamour media award voted on by journalists, like most awards it doesnt mean shit, all that matters is how much impact you brought on the way to the ring.

So if the dubs win Curry will have two rings similar to any of Kobe's outside 2000. He wouldnt pass anyone in the top 10 yet as he hasnt been in prime mode long enough to say hes got a better career. So his range would be top 20ish still.

he also averaged 4.7 turnovers and his 5/23 game in Game 2 where his team lost in OT put his team in a position to go down 1 - 3 in the series

Still, averaging 26/6/5 isn't that impressive if we're talking all-time, there has to be at least 15 if not 20 players that have done that in the past in a Finals series.

How could anyone with any balls whatsoever allow himself to be humiliated and bullied time and time again like Curry was in the Finals? Lebron took his soul repeatedly with all those blocks, and Kyrie routinely embarrassed him with crossovers and jumpers right in his mug. And how does this bitch respond? By turning it over, bitching to the refs, and throwing his mouth guard at an innocent bystander (if he had any balls, that mouth guard would've been thrown at Lebron). This man was emasculated thoroughly in the Finals. A red blooded male with testosterone would not have been able to stand for this type of bullying. He would've either responded with his play, or at least gotten physical. This bitch was scared to take it inside because he knew Lebron was lurking. Can he ever recover from this psychologically? This feels like a Nick Anderson situation, where the Finals was such a traumatic experience for him that it may have caused irreparable damage to his career.

My biggest surprise is that draymond green didn't come to his defence more. Dray acted like a tough guy/bully all year yet when his fragile pg was getting bullied he did nothing. The funniest thing about this is that Lebron said NOTHING to him. Curry jut started melting down

Don't forget the situation with his classless, annoying, attention seeking hoe of a wife. Who wears the pants in that family? Riley or Ayesha? They do whatever they want, embarrass Stephanie however they want, with no repercussions?! Then on the court, Bron and Kyrie dogged the shit out of him after his wife poured fuel on the fire.

Oh look, my auto correct changed Steph to Stephanie. Even Apple knows.

Another good point. A real man keeps his woman in check. Curry allowed his wife to embarrass him and his team in front of millions. Damn, Stephanie, I mean steph needs to get his shit together

The salt is going to be glorious when he routinely embarrasses your favorite players and teams in the upcoming season. Keep talking shit though, not too long until the season starts. :pimp:

Why did he switch allegiance back to Curry in the middle of the Finals?

And why has he stopped posting?

Actually, in my defense Bronwise, I didn't really respect him until he won these finals.

He proved me wrong.
