Sometimes I can't figure out how Roberson rates so highly in so many advanced defensive metrics, because he gets absolutely lit up more often than you'd think an "elite" perimeter defender would. C.J. Miles is handing him his ass tonight.

KG215
04-12-2015, 07:36 PM
Waiters f***ing sucks. Four straight missed FTs in a 5 point game. He may be the only SG in NBA history "Hack-a-____" would probably work.

Russ might need to go the Wade route and stop with them 3's.

Attack the basket now that Indy is in the penalty.

That was at the beginning of the season. Somthing tells me that his defensive stats were directly correlated with the thunder being one of the best defense teams before Westbrook and Durant came back and then Kanter was traded for.

Maybe, but I'm skeptical. Westbrook has some physical advantages over A.I., but A.I. was a smarter player and more reliable in the clutch.

Some of the shots/3-pointers Westbrook takes (especially late in games) are absolutely mind-numbing.

I still think Westbrook with an actual coach is the best PG in the game. If we give every PG in the game an equal supporting cast, equal coaching, all of that...I'll take Westbrook in the playoffs over any other PG. His talent level is just that high. Russ' famoust trait, his greatest strength, will, hunger, intensity, is at the same time his reason for failure and leads his negative side, since he's a hot head, and his "must score now" "must run everyone ever now" leads to low IQ moments, bad decisions, especially in late game moments, which is why I'd still prefer a controlled PG like Chris Paul, who's more aware of his doings and whats around him, with less firepower, but a tigher grip on the game.

You like Westbrook over Curry?

Close.. they all are. At least since this year, I think to 2014 CP3 was pretty untouchable as top PG.

KD happened.. actually planned a thread about it, but besides that G5 dude beasted (as did Russ). We talk about equal playing field, then we obviously must remember that it's a team game, CP3 and KD? They might have won the title tbh, like last season... I think CP3 is more clutch in that Spurs G6, stuff like getting stripped by Kawhi on that layup, that out of control fadeaway 3 that sealed their faith, or just overall, going 1-6 in OT like Russ did, Paul does a better job of closing, generally (yeah, he ****ed up playing for that foul against OKC).

Thibs lets Derick Rose chuck to his hearts content. I dont think he reigns anyone in offensively.

Anyways, Westbrook was fine. That defense was horrible, but he scored efficiently enough that no one should be complaining about his shots. Even the late threes.

It's a weakness only if the surroundings allow it to be. If he's on a team like the 2011 Bulls where he's surrounded by tough, defensive minded players with an offense entirely built around his attacking a la MVP Rose...with a tough minded coach like Thibs to reel him in and control his bullshit...it's a strength. You put him on a weirdly constructed roster like OKC minus Durant/Ibaka, with an absolutely garbage coach who sucks both strategically AND as a ego manager...then yeah, you're gonna have streaky moments (God mode for one month, then a bunch of Westbrick games).

But you cannot replicate Westbrook's intensity and physical dominance. You just cannot. It didn't matter how "pure" a PG CP3 was last year, Westbrook still outplayed him. Straight up DESTROYED Parker in the next round. Westbrook's aggressive mindset is only an issue when he's in a situation for it to be an issue. If you harness it in the right way, there is no PG more dominant.

Thibs lets Derick Rose chuck to his hearts content. I dont think he reigns anyone in offensively.

Anyways, Westbrook was fine. That defense was horrible, but he scored efficiently enough that no one should be complaining about his shots. Even the late threes.
Pre-injury Rose wasn't a chucker. He was a scoring-oriented PG but he gets criminally underrated as a playmaker. His decision making skills and quick passes were a huge part of his game, even moreso in 2012 after his MVP year when he became a more mature player. There wasn't too much for Thibs to reel in because Rose was never some crazy chucker.

Even recently since his returns, he doesn't even "chuck" that much, he just has poor shot selection, and a lot of that is because of his lingering knee pain that forces him to hesitate on driving and take jumpers instead. It's not like he's routinely chucking up 30-35 shots.

CP3 still got outplayed by the low IQ Westbrook in that series. As for rest of your hypotheticals and "what ifs", I like to stick to facts not imaginary scenarios.

People are shitting on Westbrook when OKC roster is absolute garbage right now and he has the worst supporting cast and coach out of all the top players. His 2nd option is Dion Waiters, let that sink in for a second.

Imagine any other player without their 1st/3rd best player and ask yourself where they would be...

Kyrie leading the Cavs without Lebron/Love
Klay Thompson leading the Warriors without Curry/Bogut
Blake Griffin leading the Clippers without Paul/Jordan
Duncan without Kawhi/Parker
Howard without Harden/D-Mo
Z-Bo without Gasol/Conley

Well yeah, I suppose he was never the gunner that Westbrook is who just put up 40 shots. And the reason we always excused Rose when compared to Westbrook is that he never played with anyone like Durant...

That said, I've seen Rose take terrible shots in all quarters of the game to know that he pretty much is free to do what he wants offensively. It's not really a diss as lots of players have that freedom, but yeah, I wouldnt say that Thibs is on Rose and criticizing his shots. Especially his three pointers, which is probably shoots worse than Westbrook.

Not sure who's on the market, but OKC needs to fire that incompetent weenie, Brooks. Said it back during the 2012 Finals when the Heat made them look like chumps.

Literally one of the worst coaches in the game.
