In typical ISH fashion we have a few threads on this but they are idiotic. We are at the point where we can definitively say KDs career is at risk. There are several options for the Jones Fracture and all of them have been attempted in Durant's case except the final one. There is still some ambiguity as to exactly what is needed in his case, but here is the clinical explanation (highlights mine):

From a Bulls/Rose fan, I hope this all goes well and KD returns 100% of who he is, injuries are such bullshit!
Rooting for you KD

Essentially, they attempted to heal the Jones Fracture but it kept acting up. So now they are attempting to fix the CAUSE of the Jones fracture. So they are trying to fix his foot so there are no more stress reactions to the basketball movements that have caused so many problems.
"Fixing" a foot on a 7 ft player is an insane task. I frankly don't like the odds.

He's probably susceptible to the same issues big men face. Their bones are usully too fragile for their size/weight. A human skeletal frame is already burdened at 7 feet only to be compounded by the constant stopping on a dime and jumping of basketball

His career as we know it is very much at risk. This is a huge surgery.
But.. Durant is a great shooter. He may never be what he has been, but he could very have a Ray Allen with the Celtics role for the rest of the career pending if he doesn't get hurt.

Doesn't matter if he can shoot. If he can't run, plant, reverse direction, etc he can't play in the league.

Why doesnt Durant just play with LeBron and turn into a spot-up shooter so he puts less pressure on his feet?

If Durant retired right now, he still had a better career than Melo.

from what I have read and heard it sounds like Durant wanted to come back early and the Thunder gave into his demands instead of letting him heal 100%. Probably one of the worst managements of an injury ever for the top star of their sport. Crazy and sad.

Let's enjoy Curry while we can, he is due to have a career ending injury pretty soon.

OKC doesn't owe KD 100M+ over the next 4 years...Not that I disagree, but NYK actually paid Melo ~$100M of his deal last summer. His cap hit is massive for next 4 years, but the vast majority of the money has been paid already, per reports. The payment schedule varies widely player-to-player.
I however wouldn't want the nearly $25M annual cap hit for Melo for 4 more years if his knee becomes a long term concern...

If the surgery fails, at least they can replace the foot with the end of a hockey stick.

Goddamn. Dude's feet are straight up unnatural. Should be no surprise that oxygen/blood doesnt flow through them correctly.
