No, he only beat Drexler, Porter, Kersey and Williams. Y'know, the '92 Blazers, probably the best team in NBA history to not win it all.

All Bron did was beat a young, inexperienced team.

Off the top of my head, I'd put teams like the '85 Celtics, '96 Sonics, '97 Jazz, and '73 Celtics ahead of the '92 Trail Blazers. Probably a good amount of others as well

Era needs to be taken into account.
No, all that needs to be taken into account is the dominance of how one performed against what God / Time put you up against.

MJ can't slaughter today's soft, wide open era, the same way LeBron can't go up against Riley's thuggish Knicks.

Every era, or decade in the modern NBA, post 1980 has their strong points, and weak points. MJ performed better in his era than LeBron has currently. It's that factual, plain and simple.

But anyway, the answer is always Jordan.

Why shouldn't we factor in era?

Both players achieved the same level of success

Stats are clearly being used to differentiate between the two

Era/rule schemes affect statistic output

Hence why Wilt was dropping 50 a game and getting 25 rebounds

Now it'd be stupid to compare him to someone today without factoring in era

Believe it or not defenses are A LOT better today than in the 90's

It'd be unjust to not factor in era

It's honestly closer than most would like to admit. Overall their careers are clearly separated...but 2012 Lebron was all the best attributes of Lebron manifesting itself into championship play. Dude was the same physical freak, + a much improved post game, + a refuse to lose killer mentality, minus the off court immature stuff from the season prior. All the things people normally clown him for...his reluctance to take over consistently, his inexplicable fits of passiveness, his bailouts of the defense by taking long jumpers, etc..gone. Best shown by him struggling with his jumper in the finals, simply brushing it off and still dominating from other areas of the court. One of the most complete seasons you can ask for.

2012 lebron was unreal tho, that game 6 vs Boston was crazy... No one could guard him that night... He couldn't miss from anywhere on the court... His best performance imo considering the season/his legacy were completely on the line

I still look back at LeBron's 2012 season in amazement. Elite numbers, but he never actually demonstrated elite basketball ability. He was still struggling athletically in the half-court. Not as bad as 2011, but still devoid of explosion off the dribble or any consistent ability to create for himself when the game slow down. I never had any confidence in him to take over a game, and really, he never actually did so either. Pretty much all of his production that year came within the flow of the game. His jumper was broke for much of the year too, especially in the playoffs. He had no real ability to exert his will when necessary and take over - his playmaking ability was just limited. Most of his offense was built on a dominant transition game, hard off-ball cuts to the basket and general Marion-like activity from 18 feet and inside. And all the credit in the world to him for amassing the numbers he did with that limited ability. Even leading his team to a championship! But plenty of versions of LeBron are better than his '12 self. 2009, 2010 and 2013-current. They are all better and much closer to '92 MJ, but not better, no. That's arguably MJ's best version and it's hard to imagine anyone being better than that. He had a complete and flawless skill-set, to go along with still-freakish athleticism at age 29. But more importantly, with a ring under his belt now, his control over games + sheer confidence/ruthlessness on the court all went up a notch higher that year, IMO. LeBron's simply not on that level from a mental standpoint.

1992 Jordan fairly clearly. If you weren't around then, you can't understand the level '92 Jordan was at, both in terms of on court dominance and control over games as well as the mental hold he had on the league.

This is the Jordan who dropped 50 in a Dream Team scrimmage against HOF players. This is the Jordan who scored 54 points over the final 3 quarters vs. the Heat in the playoffs after Heat players taunted him after a 2 point first quarter. This is the Jordan who dropped 42 point in game 7 against the Knicks to pull out a series win - about a dozen of those points coming in quick succession after McDaniel got in his face. This is the Jordan who dropped an NBA record 35 points and 6 threes in the first half of game 1 of the NBA Finals just to show the separation betwen him and a main rival - and he did it while sitting out 7:30 of the half. Dude could've legitimately had a 43+ point half and 60+ point game had he not sat so long and eased off in the second half. As it stands he had back to back games of 39 pts/10+ ast in the opening two games of the Finals.

Lebron is great, but he's not that.

Awww, ain't he adorable? :oldlol:

Illegal D was called as much as travelling or palming is called today. Teams played zone (without 3-second violations) outright back then. It got to the point that the NBA called several summits to deal with the issue with no luck, until they threw in the towel and got rid of the rule. So basically the only thing that changed was teams had to be pull their bigs out of the paint every 2.9 seconds instead of playing actual zone.

THIS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mykMooKalQ8) is the sort of defense Jordan was facing in the '92 playoffs.

It's very close actually. Tbh, you could just flip a coin on whoever except when it comes to clutch time I suppose. MJ was probably better at that from the stats. But when it comes to whose team rely the most, it's LeBron. The team relied on him more for the defensive and offensive side of things, and the real plus/minus stats indicate it.

You can't go wrong with either. I would argue that MJ off the ball skills would be better suited for a stacked team.

Who you got? Both are arguably their best seasons in their career.

Jordan obviously.

Both on stats and just general basketball.

LeBron isn't even close, anyone who knows basketball knows this.

Anyone else is just a kid or a retard.

Lol are you serious? Harden was a 6th man, Westbrook was just a top 10 pg in the league. K.D. ok I'll give you that. Kevin Garnett's MVP was in 2004.

Needless to say though, the 2012 Thunder and 2012 Celtics were definitely formidable opponents and are definitely as good as MJ's during his run if not better. That Celtics team was deeeeep.

KG was 35 and past prime (still solid though) and those OKC guys were neophytes. If that's your criteria, then Karl Malone's Western Conference wins in '98 blow LeBron's entire postseason out of the water.

Beat Hakeem (MVP), Barkley (MVP), and Drexler in the first round.

Beat Robinson (MVP) and Duncan (MVP) in the second.

Beat Shaq (MVP) and Kobe (MVP) in the WCF.

That's 6 former and future MVPs in the western conference playoffs alone. Lakers had 4 all stars that season.

His reward- getting clowned by the GOAT in the finals :applause:

That's a ridiculous level of talent that they had to overcome though. Wow, I guess that was when the Western Conference started to outshine the East. For me, the East was loaded with talent probably up until 1994 or so.

'92 Bulls played at a 94 pace, the '12 Heat played at a 91 pace. That's 3%, not 10%. And 3 possessions per game makes ZERO difference for a single players' stats.

I think Shaq going to the West was the biggest blow to the East's strength. Soon after that, the Bulls' dynasty ended, the Knicks and Pacers aged (even both had one last hurrah in the '98 and '00 finals). Then the East never really recovered after that. This season was the first where it looked like the Conference might close the gap a little, but injuries devastated some teams that looked like they could be players (ie, Bulls & Heat).

'92 Bulls Pace: 94.4
'12 Heat Pace: 91.2

Chicago played at a pace of a whopping 3 more possessions than the Heat. That was one of the higher paces for the Bulls too. During the second 3-peat, their pace got to sub 90 by their final run.

Beat me to it. Plus Bron had a higher usage rate than MJ. If Jordan was playing LeBron ball, he would've put up his late 80s stats.

Agreed however I do believe Pacers were still relevant until about 2004. Knicks were noexistent after the 1999 finals. I'm a huge Knicks fan but I know for real that the best Knick era basketball in the 1990s was probably 1990-1994. They were legitimate title contenders and probably would have made another finals maybe.

Shaq leaving the East was definitely a huge blow and the drafting of Tim Duncan by the Spurs definitely help. KG's emergence. Kobe's explosion in the early 2000s just was icing on the cake of making the East look like a complete joke.
