To celebrate the 52 birthday of Charles Barkley A.K.A Chuck or The Round Mound of Rebound , i made this mix of him when he started to play in NBA with the Philadelphia Sixers during 8 seasons (1984-1992).

Barkley was so quick , so strong ..... he was incredible for his size and weight with all blocKs , dunks & rebounds he made in each game he played.
Relive 11 minutes of some rare footages and epic plays .

Some good rare clips in there. Is there much known about his standing reach or vertical? For being as undersized as he was, he always seemed to pop off the ground with ease, dunking like someone much taller.

Crazy how good his handle was, considering he looked down at the ball when he dribbled. Barkley's got some of the best feet ever.

Was he scared of Jordan, always joking with him, not the mean ass trash talk like he did with other players. Also, I don't think he ever blocked Jordan or stole his ball.

All said & done, he must have been fun to was. Perhaps he should have entered the dunk contest.

Between 37.5 and 39 Vertial Leap In College and Sixer Days.

His Wingspam Wasn`t Very Important But His Vertical Leap and 284-250 lbs Fluctuation Body Weight Was For Sure Very Intimidating.

What a beast

It's just crazy how he could move around with that massive body... He was able to overpower most players, turn around and he's lookin like a freight train running the break like a guard, had a great vertical leap too for his weight.

^Then you add great all-around offensive skill to all of that, like being able to post-up very well, handle the ball like a guard, shoot some jumpers, even pass it, elite rebounder too. Also loved the way he would block shots, matter of fact his overall agressiveness.

He has a great case for best all-time offensive PF. Just a freakin beast at his peak.

Short for his position but then he also had the beef, athleticism and skill... Made him a very special player.

Never seen that footage of him going at Scott Wedman. Scottie was bulk and ripped, they used to call him Hulk due to him always being in the weight room... Seemed like he didn't want none of that though :lol

Love how his behind the back passing skills allow him to get guys biting on the behind the back fake. Almost Rondoish.

Also noticing - though I might just be seeing shadows - he really protects theh ball well. When he goes up to slam it, more often than not he orients his back to the closest defender. It also seems like he holds the ball close when he goes up, extending into the dunks viciously at the last second.

As the chubby kid I always called Barkley. :pimp: :pimp:

Greatest PF ever, the only time he had a team that was Finals worthy he ended up losing to the Bulls (Houston Barkley is a different person and doesn't count, same as Wizards Jordan).

LOL at the comparisons to Malone, anyone old enough to remember those days knows full well Chuck was way better, and also knows that all WC stats from that era are inflated compared with the East.

Well done on the video, that explosiveness on both ends of the floor was impressive.

And Phila Barkley was a tireless worker on both ends of the floor.

Kids see a buffoon on TNT and think that was the man.:facepalm

I would bet money his wingspan was more than 7 feet 1 inches though, possibly 7-2+

There's no way he didn't have long arms to be playing that position, and getting consistently high. Great leaper for sure, but long arms are a necessity to play PF as long as he did and effectively as he did at that sub 6-5 (without shoes) height. You can tell he's got wide broad shoulders and long arms just looking at him he's got great physical tools to play a variety of positions.

It doesn't help that Chuck always downplays himself compared to other PFs from yesterday and today. Chuck's easily the starting PF on my All-Time roster.

Dwyane Wade's is longer than that and he's an inch shorter, no way.

Jason Maxiel is another 6-5 without shoes PF playing in the NBA (today). He lacks Barkley's athleticism so he doesn't get above the rim nearly as often nor can he dominante like Chuck, but he's got a 7 foot 3 and 1/4 inch armspan.

If you are playing PF in the NBA at 6-5 or under, let alone dominating at it and getting way above the rim consistently like Barkley was, you've got to have long ass arms to compensate. 6-10 armspan is long shooting guard size. Heck MJ had longer arms than that at 6-11 and 1/4. Jerry West had a 6-9 armspan, Kobe has a 6-11 armspan, Dwyane Wade's is 6-10 and 1/4, Don Chaney in the 70's had a 6-10 armspan... these are guards.

No way Chuck didn't have a 7 foot plus armspan. I imagine he played more like a 7 footer at his under 6-5 height for more reasons than just his hops and his big ass.

I'm of course speculating but it's based on what I mentioned above. I wish a figure would surface as I hate just speculating.

This may or may be not an apples to apples comparison, but if Kevin Love can put up 26 and 14 like a couple years ago, I fail to see why Chuck couldnt do at least that but on a better team than the Wolves.

Good Observations: I Think around 28-13-5-2-1 on 56% FG in his peak

If Charles had Michael's team (aka Pippen + amazingly good role players) he could of easily won a few chips.

Lol at adding Charles on that Bulls team that almost won the ECF without Jordan. Like they couldn't win against everybody with him there.

Also, Charles was the head honcho on that 92 dream team with all the best players. Let's call it how it was.
